Guaranteed Safety on the Road
Students who are enrolled in Drivers Education gain knowledge on the rules of driving, how to reduce the possibilities of accidents, and how to avoid being a dangerous driver. Students learn about the effects of driving under the influence, texting at the wheel, speeding, and other reckless actions. Drivers Education is important in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving because it educates young drivers to act more cautiously and decreases the chances of irresponsible drivers on the road who could potentially cause accidents.
Any driver, new or experienced, can always learn new ways to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. The most important step is to simply put your phone away when driving. Another step is to avoid driving under the influence. Going out with friends or a reliable driver to take you home safely is the best choice to avoid an accident. Although many drivers may doubt that one little action can result in a serious accident, the chances are evidently unforeseen. These habits can easily be built into our daily routine of driving: putting away your phone and avoiding the risks of driving alone (or with a friend) under the influence.
I personally have experienced my dad driving irresponsibly several times. I was sitting in the backseat, just on my phone while my dad was driving with my mom in the passenger’s seat. My dad was watching a soccer game on his phone. My mom told him several times to put away his home, but he would repeatedly say “I’m not watching, I’m just listening to the game.” After just a couple of minutes, the car suddenly stopped because he hit a curb. We were very lucky it wasn’t another vehicle, but my dad still crashed into the curb because he wasn’t responsible. Moving forward, my mom and I consistently monitor his actions especially when he uses his phone while at the wheel.
Electronics are the top distraction when driving. Even using navigation causes you to shift your eyes off the road for a couple of seconds. I need to be more aware. Although I’m still watching the road, there’s still a chance I can overlook my surroundings. This includes pedestrians next to my car, another vehicle speeding nearby me, a yellow light becoming red, and more. I can improve the safety of others by letting them know it’s not wise to use electronics while driving, and remind them of the risks they are taking when distraction plays into driving. I need to remind those I care for that drinking and taking drugs before getting behind the wheel is a choice that needs to be more carefully thought out. I need to make sure my friends and family don’t go out alone to any place where they could get drunk or drugged. The only step we can take for our future is to promise ourselves that we won’t let anyone we love have the slightest chance of being involved in an accident.
