How can a Driver’s Education affect the amount of accidents on the road?
An Understood Driver’s Education is vital to reducing the number of deaths caused by driving. A lack of a good quality driver’s education can very easily lead to misunderstandings because then not all the drivers will be on the same page whilst on the road. This can be very dangerous. It is a similar instance to an argument caused by miscommunication. Which can tend to end on bad terms. However, the consequences of miscommunication on the roads are far worse. It can end in Fatality as shown through America’s statistics of around 34,000 vehicle related deaths per year. If all drivers have a clear understanding of the rules there is more of a chance that the roads will be safer.
It would be a good idea to make drivers retake theory tests every few years to ensure that they have not forgotten the rules. This would also work as validation of the drivers not becoming a threat to the roads. To avoid the mass amounts of illegal driving, we could use more ANPR technology or insurance validation technology.
I have been in a minor car accident before where a car hit our family car from the back at a red light. The impact was more damaging on my parents because they were elderly. This was an example of irresponsible driving and the lack of concern for the rules. I have also witnessed friends driving without keeping other drivers in mind. I have even seen people driving underage without licences or without insurance. It is very inconsiderate and selfish behaviour. Driving recklessly should not be seen as a fun activity. Many do not really understand how the rules and speed limits are designed to keep us safe. Many argue that speed limits encourage people to speed. There have been studies where taking speed limits off the roads have made the roads safer because that puts the trust in the driver to drive safely and consider others. Whereas when there is a speed limit it makes people feel like they are not to be trusted. Trusting other drivers can be difficult because we will never fully know if they are considerate of others or not.
To be a better and safer driver I can recap my knowledge on the rules of the road every few months. I can also ask friends to test me to see if I am using these rules responsibly. This will also help my friends become more aware of themselves when they drive because they may get used to looking out for when I use my knowledge of the road.
