How to be a Safe Driver
How to be a Safe Driver
The importance of driver education in reducing the number deaths as a result of driving is
critical. It teaches defensive driving as the best driving and is clearly seen as the best method as
to reduce the number of deaths through the various uses taught. Uses include using the seconds
rule, slowing down numbers of feet before a turn or stop sign, and not just checking at your side
mirrors but also over your shoulder before changing lanes. Through these uses, American
highways and roads become a safer environment, thus less deaths related to driving. Personally, I
have never encountered an accident but have seen more up close. It was 2007 and I was in the
back of my car when I saw a truck speedily try to take a red light. The truck didn’t have the time
or the space, so the driver braked and the truck flipped over and rolled for hundreds of feet. What
I learned was that taking risks while driving is something that should almost always be avoided.
It is your life that you are risking through those foolish risks. Moving on, another time I
encountered an accident was when I believe I saw two cars hit each other in a parking lot while
trying to back out. In this case, both drivers were not paying attention and this should not be
allowed because they could have not only hit each other but people as well. Things, such as these
just listed, make the road a dangerous place so paying close attention makes all the difference
between life and death. Speaking of paying close attention, it reminds me of a song. In “Detroit
Rock City” by Kiss, it tells of a man who is listening to Kiss and is speedily moving across a
boulevard. As he is jamming out, he moves across to the other side of the street and hits a
delivery truck, where he is catapulted from the windshield and dies. This shows what distracted
driving can do, so paying attention is a key concept while driving. Moving on, steps each person
can take to make sure the roads of America can become a better and more welcome place can all
come from being treated the way you’d want to. Do you want people to drive safely? Then you
must do so first. Do you want people to drive on the right side of the road and respect the rules?
Same thing applies to you. So on and so forth. Driving is a privilege and living also is. Each are
important to this world and one wrong move or mistake can erase one or even both of those
privileges. Nonetheless, it is also important to remember that with those privileges comes
responsibilities and those responsibilities affect everyone whether it is evident or not. With these
things in mind and in conclusion, driving defensively and the way you’d want to be treated is the
best way to ensure that everyone is safe and the roads of the world become likewise.
