Say No To Reckless Driving”

Reckless driving takes the lives of millions of individuals in the U.S annually. Driver education is essential because learning about preventive measures will ideally prevent fatal car crashes. The act of being in a Driver Education’s Course reduces the possibility of an individual being in a car crash. With the knowledge of driver education, drivers can acquire alertness and readiness to embark on a journey in their automobile.

There are many steps to reduce deaths caused while driving: no distracted driving, be alert and obey traffic laws. These steps are three of many that can prevent fatalities due to driving. Many instances cause distractions while driving; alcohol, drugs, texting, eating, applying makeup, and more. Even if it may seem like a regular occurrence, none of these actions should be done while driving. Being alert is also essential when driving. Making sure you are rested is key to a safe trip to one’s destination. It is common to fall asleep at the wheel which could result in a car crash. Obeying traffic laws is one of the most important steps to staying safe while driving. Many traffic laws are enacted to drivers to ensure safety on the roads. Things like stopping at red lights or stop signs, looking both sides before going at intersections, and slowing down in construction sites can save a life. These acts may seem simple, but one mishap can cost someone their life. The goal is to be a safe and educated driver, not a reckless and uneducated one.

No one is immune to the dangers reckless driving creates, and I can attest to that. Six of my friends and I were driving on the highway, in two different cars, hoping to reach our destination. One of my friends in the other car wanted to race on the highway, and my friend and I, who thought it would be cool, agreed. We embarked on what seemed to be a racecar race. There was so much swerving, and so much yelling going on, we almost hit an eight-teen wheeler. At the time, it felt cool to be doing reckless things like that, so we did not realize we could have died on that highway. There are many dangers in speeding, and we were driving irresponsibly and I was not doing my due diligence of telling my friend to stop.

I want more people to be aware of the dangers of driving, and what drivers can do to stop the cycle of fatal car crashes. I want to stop eating while driving, and I know with better time management, I can eat before I leave the house. I also want people to be more aware of traffic laws. My father tells me on several occasions; though he has been driving for more than 30 years, he is still learning how to be a better driver. No one is a perfect driver and with more driver education, we can have safe roads.
