I Love Driving Too but Seriously Ten and Two

I Love Cars Too but Seriously Ten and Two

For a teen, there is nothing like the first milestone into adulthood. Getting your driver license is the reason why we like to think we are grown. When I first received it, it was simply exhilarating. It was a taste of freedom, independence, and unlimited possibilities. It is something most teenagers look forward too. Yet, we never see the potential harm and danger that comes with it. Naturally why would we? To us it is fun. That was me at sixteen. Now, two years later, I have never in my life had so much respect for the road. I have come to understand the importance of being smart, safe, and alert while driving.

See that is the importance of Driver’s Ed. Their goal is to educate students on how to operate along the yellow-dashed road. It allows real word experiences, and it rewards you for failure because it is ultimately practice. In the real word if you screw up…there will be consequences. However, after every mistake in Driver’s Ed you are corrected without suffering any harm yourself. That is the beauty of this educational program, students are eventually able to manage him or herself and other drivers. Knowing at what distance to turn on your signal, how far you need to place yourself from certain drivers, knowing the correct usage of the mirrors to maintain maximum awareness of your environment, these are just a few examples of what students may learn. Having knowledge is powerful itself, having it behind the wheel is a very, very powerful.

Being an educated driver is in some ways like being a superhero. On the road it is your job to predict, analyze, and react. With the proper knowledge you save lives indirectly, simply because you prevent any harm in the first place. As mentioned before, driving is very dangerous. I have witnessed accidents, I have seen the catastrophic aftermath of accidents, and I have barely escaped them myself. Bad drivers are a real and dangerous thing, and Driver’s Ed both prevents students from becoming bad drivers and teaches them how to operate on the road with them. Each year people lose their life within seconds on the road. It is a sad and tragic, but it is our reality. Therefore, being educated on the road is essential. To save just one life means so much.

So, it is important for future drivers and current ones that we take steps to ensure that we can be safer drivers and ultimately reduce the number of deaths on the road. Invest in Driver’s Ed, both parents and drivers. It is key that we keep an eye on our mirrors, always check for your blindside before changing lanes, refrain from all distractions, and always be considerate. Let us work smart and hard to keep those roads safe.
