The Importance of Driver Education: How It Affects Us and Those Around Us

Driving. You would not think that this seemingly simple activity has more components to it than meets the eye. There are rules of the road that must be followed along with many achanging variables on your journey to your destination. Driving is a learning experience. Everytime you step into your vehicle, you further your education of the road. This process is expanded on by Driver Education. This class teaches us how and why the rules must be followed and where they apply in multiple scenarios on the highways. Steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving are numerous and can help you focus on what is happening outside of the vehicle. One may be having a mentor ride along in the car as you begin learning to drive. Whether it be a parent or driving instructor, it always helps to have an extra set of eyes to look for possible dangerous situations. They can even help you avoid possible accidents and even death. Last winter, my brother was in a car accident that caused me to take a step back and realize how dangerous driving can be. He was driving down the road when someone pulled out of their driveway and didn’t look. It had snowed prior to this event so the roads were not in good condition by any means. My brother tried to stop but he could not, the ice caused his truck to slide right into the side of the other person’s truck. Luckily, no serious injuries occurred but there was still some damage done to both vehicles. This led to a huge dispute about who insurance would pay for the damages because it was hard to decide who was at fault. My brother was eventually claimed to be the person at fault which took us all by surprise but in the end, there was nothing that he could have done to prevent this. This all could have simply been avoided if both my brother and the person he hit were taught how to be safe in all conditions. My brother over-drove the road conditions which lead to the accident. He should have known what to do when the conditions were poor but he didn’t. Many others including myself can use this situation as a lesson. It taught me and especially my brother to be extra precautions when driving. A vehicle is very dangerous . The accident showed me the steps that can be taken to be a safer driver are ones that may seem to be common knowledge of road safety. Texting, not wearing seat belts- these are the same ones that are often stressed as dangerous activities within a vehicle. Often warnings are broadcasted on television, put on signs, and all over your vehicle through warning labels. Each is trying to get the point across to the public of the life threatening undertakings that happen on the road.
