Promoting Safe Driving Saves Lives
I remember when I was 15 years old my mother and I were driving to my soccer game, and on our way, we got into a car accident. Somebody that had been speeding down the road had crashed into us. Luckily, no one was severely injured, however the damage caused to the cars could have been avoided through being more careful on the road. In the United States we have a wonderful opportunity to drive and to receive help to learn how to drive with driver education. However, many times we do not take advantage of this opportunity and simply let it slip away. Through time and time again we see many families being torn and separated through simple mistakes which result in not so simple things. In this essay I will be expressing certain resolutions we can use to help bring the number of deaths caused by car accidents lower than what it already is.
One of the biggest ways we can help limit the death of car accidents is through promotion. We are used to seeing commercials on TV, social media, and other sources about how we should not smoke and that it can cause many problems in our lives, and even death. However, the same is not seen with driving. Promoting safe driving and sharing the experiences of people who have had bad experiences with driving, can lead to the awareness of others and help them learn from other people’s experiences. Social media would be a great way of doing this. Many people spend countless hours on different social media platforms throughout the week. It never hurts to receive specific and special reminders from your average day people on the average day. One of the greatest ways people can learn is through repetition. Therefore, having a daily reminder of this would not hurt; but rather help in the result of reducing car accidents which would then result in the reduction of deaths in car accidents.
As I mentioned I was in a car accident at the age of 15 with my mother. It appeared as if the person who hit us was driving aggressively and was speeding down the street. Another experience was that I had a friend who lost their brother due to an intoxicated driver. As driver education teaches safe driving and allows its learners to learn a little more in depth of how the “little” things can truly make a difference. Of course, no one is perfect. I, as everyone, have many flaws. However, all of us can drive a little more safely and help remind each other, through promotions, and focusing more on “safe/defensive driving” in driver education.
A couple of steps I will take to ensure that I am more careful behind the wheel is to set my phone on the “do not disturb” setting so that way I do not have alerts on my phone distracting me. This way I am focused and avoid driving distracted, which is the leading cause of car accidents. Furthermore, I will always keep the law with keeping the speed limit. In doing so I can keep myself and those around safe through actions.
In conclusion, as we receive reminders, we can be more aware. With this awareness, we can take extra precautions in being safe drivers. As we can continue to drive safely more lives will be kept and the future will look brighter. All through safer driving.
