Denia Bartholomew

There are various reasons as to why it is important to reduce the number of deaths because of driving. There are also multiple steps to take to prevent the number of deaths related to driving. A key role is parent’s or guardian’s they are the first teachers to their children. There is numerous things and steps you can take to prevent another life to be lost because of irresponsible driving.

First, step is taking the child to a driver education classes. In doing this they can learn the basic steps of how to drive and what each part of the vehicle is and how it works. For example, they learn what the gas pedal, brake pedal, steering wheel, how to change gears, what each gear is for. Aside from learning the components of the interior they learn their use and how to use it responsibly. In driver education you also learn skills on how to practice defensive driving which can help you prevent an accident because of someone else’s neglect which can in turn save a life or even your own life. Part of driver education is learning the signs and their meaning. When you learn what the signs are you can assure that you will not be speeding, you will not run a red light, you will not hit someone working in construction, you will not run over a pedestrian. There are countless reasons as to why driver education helps reduce the number of deaths because of driving.

The steps one can take to prevent hurting someone else is turn off your phone while you are driving. This will stop your phone from being a distraction and cause you to hurt someone because you are texting or calling while driving. Next, is follow and respect the street signs. If you go at the speed limit it is easier for you to stop in case an emergency vehicle is approaching. If someone happens to be walking where there is no crosswalk. If an animal happens to cross the street as you are driving, you will be able to stop successfully. One can also have a designated driver if you plan on drinking so that you do not crash someone because of impairment.

I have not been in a car accident or been in a car in which there was a car accident. I attribute this to taking driver education. When I took the classes they taught me so many useful things such as, defensive driving, how to read signs, how to use the components inside the vehicle, how to react when there is an emergency vehicle, what to do in rough weather conditions. The steps I can take to be a safer driver is not drink and drive, not use my phone while driving, not speed, not do drugs, wear a seatbelt, make sure my passengers wear a seatbelt, and not be distracted while driving.

As one can see, there is endless reasons as to why driver education classes are essential to be a great driver and prevent more deaths from happening because of irresponsible driving. In doing so we minimize the chances of losing more loved ones. There is also steps we can take to have a positive impact as well. It is up to us to make those changes and keep everyone safe on the road it starts with you and I so let us make it happen.
