In the Drivers Seat; A life Can Never Be Given Back Because of Carelessness
In the Driver’s Seat; A life Can Never Be Given Back Because of Carelessness
A brief and short essay on why I believe drivers education is important. Have you thought about how you can impact safe driving? A life can never be given back because of carelessness. Driving a vehicle of any type is a privilege and with that privilege comes great responsibility.
Just like any tool used for a job, the safety of yourself and those around you means you must first learn the tool and its capabilities. I believe that driver education is an overview to all the aspects of driving and tools you use to successfully drive. By going through driver’s education, you are familiarizing yourself with the standards of the road, the environment and conditions surrounding you, while learning how to best use the tools provided such as car. By learning how to operate these tools effectively keeping your and eyes and mind on task, you are minimizing the risk of injury or fatality.
Driving among other things in our nation is a privilege and responsibility. When you don’t take it seriously and have respect for the privilege, you create unsafe conditions and behaviors. Just like in my opening statement, a life can never be given back because of carelessness. I think to reduce the number of deaths related to driving; we need to be impactful in our teachings. Actions speak louder than words, by engaging younger drivers in driver’s education and high school programs such as Freshman IMPACT, you are creating actions people can relate to and be affected by, thus increasing the sense of responsibility and lowering the potential death rate.
In the short time I have had my license and been driving I personally have not been involved in an accident or been witness directly to an accident. However, I did watch my mother assist her friend when he lost his wife to a motorcycle accident. A woman not paying attention veered in front of their motorcycle, causing them to swerve off the road. He was fortunate in that he survived. His wife did not. She left behind a husband, children and friends. A life lost because of carelessness and recklessness. The toll on their children, family and friends was heartbreaking and to know it all could have been prevented.
There are so many things one can do to become a better driver. One of the most important things you can do is not be impaired by anything while driving. Also setting a good example of good behaviors is key component. Locking my phone while I’m driving so that it sends a message to those trying to contact me or putting my phone in my glove box is just one example. Looking ahead and staying focused with my eyes and mind on task. Staying alert and aware of my surroundings, anticipating anything and everything. In addition, there are little things within my control like setting my seats and mirrors or adjusting my speed to match traffic. Taking these steps and setting good examples help me stay safe and encourage others to stay safe while operating any kind of motorized vehicle.
