Just Obey the Rules
Sitting in the passenger seat waiting in a parking lot for my mom, I heard a loud noise. My fingers tense up and my heart starts racing, leaving me speechless. A few seconds later, I realized that the car that was parked behind us had just hit our car while reversing at a high speed. Due to my young age, I was unsure of what to do. My first thought was to call my mother that was gabbing a cake for the birthday that we were attending that day. Crying, I called my mom. I was too scared to even go down and check what exactly happened to the car. Rushing out of Safeway, my mom finally arrived to see what had happened. However, it was too late because the car that hit us ran away without asking if I was even okay or not. The first thing my mom did was call 911. Shortly after, the towing truck took our car to the dealer. The damage was close to getting our car totaled but luckily, they were able to fix it.
A few years later, I decided that it was finally time for me to get my driving license. The first step was completing driver education. I found that course very helpful because I know that I would not have been able to memorize everything just by reading a small book or unreliable online sources. Driver education is required now for all teenagers to take because it helps reduce the number of deaths. Confidently, I can say that I follow all directions while driving. On the other hand, many people around me don’t. When I follow the speed limit, I often get honked at by reckless drivers that are driving way over the speed. To avoid collisions, I get out of the way and allow the reckless driver to drive past me. However, I do have family members that tend to ignore or even chase the driver that is honking. In my opinion, that is completely wrong. Simply because a wrong action can’t be corrected by another wrong action. Instead, I always tell my parents and other drivers to calm down when such happens. Another significant issue that I believe plays a big role when it comes to collisions is using a phone while driving. I know people that take videos, talk, watch YouTube, and even go online shopping while driving. I see that wrong in so many ways because you are not only putting your life at risk, but also the passenger’s lives and other drivers around you. I always have my phone on airplane mode while driving because I don’t like any distractions. This isn’t stated to make it seem like I am a perfect driver, but rather show my preference and what is supposed to happen on the road.
To sum this up, I do believe that anything can wait because focusing on driving should be a priority. By following the driving rules, the number of deaths will decrease. Driving recklessly won’t get me to arrive early, but rather put me at a greater risk of getting into a car crash. Thus, I prefer taking my time and arriving safely because risking my life and other peoples’ lives is just very irresponsible of me to do.
