Alert today – Alive tomorrow
It’s 3:00 am, a group of 5 teenagers are heading out from the typical highschool party, and of course everyone had their fun. Involving; drinks, games, dancing, etc. But the party is now over and the time has come where everyone is heading home. During the ride back, the group continues to laugh and talk, already planning the next party. The driver, who has yet to come back to their senses from drinking too much, begins to fade out. Then abruptly hits something. Not minding a single bit, the group carelessly brushes it off. Unknowingly that their friend in the driver’s seat has almost passed out. The car, blasting music louder than one’s ear can take, starts to swerve. Left and right, left and right, left and right, then suddenly…CRASH! 7 dead. 1 mother who was just trying to get to work across town with her 2 children in the car with her. An elderly man who was just going to get groceries. And lastly, 3 of the 5 friends who were inside the car. All, now dead. To think, this could have all been avoided if the driver did not drink, if the friends were educated enough to not let their friend drink before driving, if the driver had been more careful and deeply informed of the risks. And now, all those people suffer. Friends and family of those unfortunate people who had done nothing wrong, mourn over the great loss they have to endure. All because the driver was careless. This situation is only one of many careless acts that uneducated drivers make. Risking the lives of others safety and their own. Which could have been easily avoided had they just made the right decision. Driver education helps teach people the importance of safety when driving, not only for themselves, but for others too. Research shows that, “Teens taking driver education are less likely to be involved in crashes or to receive a traffic violation during their first two years of driving, because teen crashes and fatality rates are highest at ages 16-18, these reductions are especially meaningful.” Completing a driver’s instruction course prior to obtaining one’s license will offer assistance to young teenagers to create simple vehicle control and activity maneuvers. It educates understudies how to securely work a vehicle on active interstates, at night, and amid other unsafe driving circumstances. The key focuses are to comply with the activity laws, be foreseeable, maintain a strategic distance from diversions, drive well-rested, and steer clear of liquor and drugs. Being able to do this, and the streets will become more secure for all. Fortunately, I have not been in a car accident and no one I know of has been in one. Hopefully in the future it stays like that. Though countless times there have been way too many close calls. Whether it be simple things like signaling or speed limit. Numerous times it could have taken a turn for the worse, but luckily it didn’t.
