In the Driver’s Seat

In the Driver’s Seat

Driving is one of the most dangerous activities that people participate in daily. Too many people die every year in the U.S. due to car accidents. Drivers Education helps people learn how to drive cautiously and safely. Young drivers who have not taken Drivers Ed. have a higher chance of a fatal crash or injury while driving. Drivers Ed. teaches valuable skills that help young drivers; such as being able to read a situation quickly and being able to react to any situation that may arise, knowing to merge onto the interstate safley, or how to drive in bad weather conditions . These are skills that take time and dedication to master and Drivers Ed. helps their students develop these needed skills.

There are so many ways to help reduce the death rate among drivers. Some ways include driving rested and sober, limiting potential distractions such as cell phones or loud music, having non-distracting passengers, and making sure one’s vehicle is properly maintained. A sure way to increase safety of one’s self and others is to leave a little earlier to make up for delays or traffic. This will prevent speeding or aggressive driving. Always be on high alert while driving, other people can be unpredictable on the road.

I myself have never been in a car accident but I have witnessed my family members drive quite irresponsibly. I’ve seen my father recklessly drive well over the speed limit on the freeway. It scares me whenever he drives because he gets easily angered by other drivers. He tailgates and screams as if it would solve the problem or make the other person drive faster. Instead of reacting the way he does he should leave earlier to not be in a rush and be courteous to other drivers instead of responding with anger. My Aunt drives worse than my father. She doesn’t use her blinker, come to a complete stop, or go less than ten over the speed limit.

Being a safe driver should be everyone’s top priority while driving. You can always learn more and take more precautions when driving such as making sure your phone is off and checking your mirrors before starting the car. With less distractions you can focus more on other drivers and the road. Being able to anticipate and see danger can save your life. You can choose a CD or radio station before driving as to limit fidgeting with the dials while driving. The seatbelt is very important, it is the first thing you should put on once you enter a vehicle, whether you’re the driver or a passenger. Of course driving includes other drivers, you should never put your life in another driver’s hands. Other drivers will make mistakes. You must always be prepared for that. Obeying all traffic laws help ensure that you and your passengers reach your destination safely. Finally keeping your eyes on the road is a must. It does not take long at all for an accident to happen. A quick text or glance can be the difference between you making it home safe or not. Always be on high alert to keep yourself and others safe on the road.
