The Importance of Knowledge While Driving

The Importance of Knowledge While Driving

The importance of driver education is it teaches students how to drive safely. One of the most important lessons it teaches is that drivers should not be driving offensively but defensively; always looking out for what the other driver is going to do. Driver education also shows what can happen when people do not drive safely. A driver ed teacher can show videos of people being thrown out of cars because they are not wearing a seatbelt, people getting t-boned because they did not check both ways before driving and more. Sometimes people do not realize all the things that happen or could happen while driving and driver education does the important job of teaching the dangers of driving.

Some steps that can be taken to reduce deaths is to paint the roads with glow in the dark paint so it is easier to see the road at night, make the driving test stricter to show the student really knows how to drive, raise the age that kids can get their temporary license so there are not as many adolescents driving, and demand that anyone drinking in a bar has a designated driver so there would not be as many drunk drivers. These precautions allow for a safer atmosphere while driving, and adds maturity to the driver.

One of my family members, while driving on the interstate, drove only a couple inches from a vehicle in front of them so the vehicle would move over so they could pass. The family member was speeding, and although nothing bad became of the incident, if there had been any reason that the vehicle in front of us had slowed down even a little, my family would have died and so would the people in front of us because there was no time for a reaction. The whole time this event was taking place I was worried for my safety. Driving is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly and needs to be done with precaution.

Personally I drive the speed limit and do not go the usual five miles per hour over. The government placed the speed limit there for a reason and I intend to follow it. This also gives me a little more reaction time in case a deer would come onto the road or a car would have to stop suddenly. I have tried many times to convince my friends to follow the speed limit and when I am in the car with them I also encourage them not to be on their phones changing the music or texting so they can give the proper attention to the road.
