Life Is A Highway
When one is around the age of sixteen, the idea of being able to drive it is quite exhilarating. The thought of experiencing something completely new and embarking on a new journey can be quite exhilarating. It is so exciting in fact, that it is often easy for one to overlook just how dangerous driving can potentially be as well as just important Drivers Education actually is. Far more than just another required high school class, Drivers Education is purposed to be a proactive lifesaver. Many teenagers sit in the classroom unaware that what is being taught to them could one day serve to save their life.
Everything that is covered, everything that is taught, and everything that is expected of the driver to know, is inevitably what the individual behind the wheel will need once they hit the road. Given that more than thirty-eight thousand people in the United States die from car crashes every year, it is imperative that in the effort to prevent more of these deaths, every individual who puts themselves behind that wheel, is equipped with the knowledge and skill necessary to keep themselves and everyone else safe.
An extremely important step towards reducing the number of deaths concerning motor vehicles and creating a safer environment for everyone on the roads, is for one to know their own driving style. All of us have different driving styles, and none of us drive exactly the same way. If you know your own driving style, then you also know that others do not always drive or think the same when on the road as you may. This helps you to realize that you must not assume what another person may do or what decisions they will make. You must drive with caution, and make your own decisions based on your careful instinct.
Much can be said of the rules of the road, the norms that are expected, and all of the procedures that you are supposed to follow. What is sometimes neglected is that it is not just what you are reading out of a driver’s manual, and it is not just a sign you see on the road or something that they told you at school that you did not pay all that much attention to. It is about life. It is the fact that the decisions you make when you are behind the wheel, impact not only you, but everyone else as well. Those other people around you are mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, grandparents, relatives as well as friends. They have a future, things to look forward to, as well as friends and family to spend more time with.
They are humans, just as you are. They have the rest of their life to live, just as you do. So please, the next time you get behind the wheel, remember that life truly is a highway, and to consider the impact that your decisions will have when you get behind the wheel.
