The Importance of Driver Education

The Importance of Driver Education

Driver education is important for every driver and should be taught before one starts driving. It will not only teach someone how to drive, but teach them what signs mean, rules of the road, how to be cautious, and safety measures for many situations. Not everyone receives driver education, however, requiring it for new drivers could reduce the number of accidents and even deaths.

Driver education could reduce the number of deaths, because of driving, by providing new drivers the knowledge about being on the road. For example, a distracted driver could be texting, looking out the window for too long, or even falling asleep, which can all be avoided with the proper education. Students would learn that being on your phone can wait, looking out the window for too long can be dangerous, and that falling asleep can be resolved by turning on music, eating a snack, or rolling down the window. Many more scenarios and resolutions can be taught to new drivers for safety.

Certain steps can be taken to reduce the deaths related to driving by requiring driver education for all new drivers. Learning the signs and rules of the road will reduce the number of accidents whether it is how and when to yield or if it is staying three seconds behind the car in front of you. Many different ideas can be made to teach new drivers how to be extra cautious and it will probably save their lives at times. With the easy steps of driver education being required and teaching new drivers ways to be extra cautious, we can reduce the number of accidents that are caused by preventable mistakes.

I, personally, have not experienced being in a car accident. However, I have been in the car when someone was driving irresponsibly. There have been multiple instances that I have been around irresponsible driving. For example, people have not worn their seatbelt at times, someone was on their phone while driving, and I have even been in the car with someone that drove with their knee! These all can be avoided by driver education and if these scenarios are put to a halt, the number of accidents and deaths will reduce tremendously.

While mentioning others not driving responsibly, I will admit, I have been on my phone while driving before. However, I have realized the bad things that can happen if I am distracted and paying attention to something that is not important. To resolve this, I will put down my phone once I start driving because I do not want to be the reason for a lost life or for one’s suffering. I can also encourage others to think before they become distracted and how they could prevent an accident or teach them ways to be cautious that I use while driving, to hopefully provide them with some knowledge that they are able to use. Driver education could be required for new drivers and I believe that it will help reduce the number of accidents and deaths.
