my life flashed before my eyes
My life flashed before my eyes
One day, I was driving to town with my friends to go shopping. The day was quiet and perfect. Then, out of nowhere, I feel a big jolt in my neck and my head hits the steering wheel. I was unconscious. A driver, who was speeding through a red light, t-boned us. I feel like all of that could have been avoided if we had more police officers in Greenville, TN. When we wrecked, no police came, no firefighter, no body. If the cops would’ve been there, the guy would have not been speeding. We could also make drivers take a driving test every 5 years to ensure they still know how to drive.
I was hit. I was scared. My arm was broken and none of it was my fault. I still received a traffic ticket, which in my mind is ridiculous. The DMV should not just hand out licenses’. They should actually take every measure possible to ensure that that person is safe out on the road. Because if they would have, that would have not happened.
It changed my whole life, now I have PTSD when driving. I shake and clench up when a car comes beside me but it shouldn’t be like that. The person who hit me only got a ticket and that was it, he didn’t even have to go to driving school. He should’ve though because maybe he woulf finally see what kind of jerk he is for speeding. Multiple people every day get killed in car accidents no matter if the person driving is sober or not. My brother was actually killed in a car accident. He was hit by a drunk driver and got thrown out of the car and hit pavement and broke all of his ribs. Every since that day I have been extremely careful on the roads. But it shouldn’t take someone dying or close to dying for someone to see that they should be careful.
No matter what, if you are behind the wheel, you should never go over the speed limit and you should always keep your eyes on the road. One step that could be taken to be more protective is that they should lower speed limits and have speed checks all thru the counties and city’s so that if anyone s speeding maybe they will slow down when they see the speedometer on the side of the road checking if they are going to right speed.
Still to this day, I am even afraid to stick the key’s in the ignition because what if I get in a wreck again? What if this time I actually die? I could not do that to my family, they need me. I would feel a lot better about driving if the county or city took preventative measures to ensure driving safety. Limiting speed limits even more, speed checks, assign police officers more on highways, more red lights. SOMETHING to make sure that everyone has done everything possible to keep the people driving safe!
