Safe Driving
The importance of driver education is to teach inexperienced drivers the dangers of driving and how being a safe driver is extremely important. In order to be a good driver, there can not be any distractions. Drivers are responsible for getting to and from locations without being harmful and reckless. When I was in driver education, our instructors would show pictures of accidents caused by many different scenarios. Some would be from drunk driving, speeding, driving while on drugs, texting, and many others. They would show gruesome images to implement the dangers of driving and so that drivers do not make those same mistakes. Getting distracted by passengers or being on the phone while driving is not allowed and it can injure someone, or even kill them. Being a safe driver requires the driver to know how to drive in certain weather conditions. It is important for driver education to teach this so drivers reduce the rate of accidents and deaths by being a safe driver. Steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths due to driving would be to make sure there is always someone sober driving. According to the CDC, more than 25% of traffic related deaths happened because of impaired drivers. In order to reduce the deaths from driving, we as a country must be more responsible and to stop driving while under the influence. Always wearing a seatbelt is a great way to reduce the amount of traffic related deaths. Steps to reduce the number of deaths would also be to stop speeding. Speeding is very dangerous because accidents will be more forceful which can cause more serious injuries. Another way to reduce the deaths would be to limit distractions at all times. This means to not text and drive, look at passengers while talking, or playing music too loud. Texting and driving takes three distractions: visual, cognitive, and manual. However, all three of these distractions can take the cognitive, visual, and manual focus away from driving. A great way to reduce the amount of deaths would be to make sure drivers that have had medical emergencies should not be driving. Drivers that are tired are just as bad as drunk driving. I have never been in an accident or have family members drive while on their phones. I will always take my parents’ phones if they receive a text or call and ask them how they want me to deal with it. I have seen plenty of strangers driving while texting and they constantly swerve on and off the road, hit the brakes for no reason, or drive under the speed limit. This is unacceptable because of the risks they are creating not only for themselves, but for other responsible and even irresponsible drivers. I’ve had some friends text and drive, and they aren’t any better than any other driver that isn’t focused on the road. I keep telling them to get off their phones before they cause an accident and regret what they’ve done. I tell them for their own safety as well as the safety of other drivers. I would not be able to live normally if anyone important in my life got into a serious accident and caused serious injuries to themselves or other drivers. Driving is one of the most dangerous aspects in our lives because of how many drivers there are. People might think they are good drivers because of how long they’ve been driving, but they could be in an accident because of someone else. My parents always tell me to never trust other drivers because of how dangerous they can be.
