Starting off with my essay I would like to introduce myself. My name Isabelle Rowe and I am a senior at Mount Carmel High School. I plan on continuing my education at a four year university where I can pursue my passion of nursing. I discovered my passion at a young age when I would help anyone I could. It ranged from distracting them from the pain when they fell and waiting for someone to get an adult to help more or just helping my cousin with her eczema medicine and distracting her from her urges to scratch her skin. Further continuing my education and receiving scholarships will aid me in order to grow and learn from the various opportunities I will be able to pursue.
I believe driving education is important for many reasons, but one is being able to safely operate a vehicle. This is already overlooked by many teenagers when they first get their license. Having a driving education can provide serious benefits such as money, but especially when it can save lives. Some steps that can be taken into account in order to reduce the number of car accidents are enforcing more laws and/or encouraging more teenagers to take a drivers education class. This would help reduce the amount of deaths or injuries endured because these laws and classes would remind drivers of the consequences of the constant reminders of killing someone. Some other factors that can help would be not being under the influence involving drugs and/or alcohol, wearing your seatbelt, not using your phone, and being observant of your surroundings, including checking the weather that way you are prepared for what may come and how the weather already is.
I have never personally been in an accident, but my family and I have almost been in one in Poway, California. They picked up my sister and I early from practice, and when we were heading home a woman was driving in the other direction, but flipped over into our lane. My dad luckily stopped the car in time unless we would have been part of the wreckage as well. The woman who flipped wasn’t badly injured, but her car was because she was texting while driving. She just kept crying and saying, “I glanced at it once! Just once!” With this incident I know to become a better driver by putting my phone away out of reach, putting my phone on do not disturb, driving the speed limit, and following the rules of drivers ed. I can encourage my peers to do the same by talking to them and encouraging them to take part in a driver education class or program.
Being in control of a vehicle is a huge responsibility and should be taken with careful consideration because you are not the only one who can be affected by one mistake on the road. I hope my essay was able to encourage one to take part in a driver educational program or learn more about the rules and laws of driving a vehicle. I appreciate the time you put into reading my essay and I hope I will be considered for your scholarship. Thank you.
