Importance of Driving Safely
Importance of Driving Safely
Drivers Education teaches the meaning of the road signs, the laws that must be followed, and most importantly the dangers that come with driving. Without this class one would have to learn the rules and dangers of the road through trial and error or learn from a parent who is most likely out of touch with all of the rules and dangers of the road. This would only increase the number of deaths by driving.
One step to be taken to reduce the number of driving related deaths is by teaching the dangers of the road in Drivers Ed classes. It is important to know what to watch out for from others while driving and what to avoid doing while driving. Another step that we can take is holding ourselves accountable by making sure we do not drink if we need to drive somewhere before the alcohol wears off and making sure that all of our texts can be answered either before or after we are driving. If everyone showed personal responsibility and held themselves accountable while driving, surely there would be far less deaths by vehicle accidents.
Although I have never been in a car accident, I have been in instances with friends and family members where I have taken notice of some distracted driving including texting, playing with the radio, and daydreaming. They may not always listen to a friendly reminder, so it is important to make sure that you are doing all that you can to stay safe by buckling your seatbelt, sitting right in the seat, and paying attention to the road. One way you could help lessen distractions is by asking “Can I text that person for you?” or “Can I find a radio station for you?”
To be the safest driver I can be I must always remember to hold myself accountable. I must remember that someone’s life is always at stake when I am driving and that my actions could have very bad consequences. I will never text nor drink and drive. I will always wear my seatbelt, pay attention to the road, and set up the radio before I leave if I want to listen to music. In order to make others safe drivers, I will always give them a friendly reminder when I see them doing something that could have very bad consequences, including the loss of someone’s life.
