How we can be better drivers
The number of deaths related to automobiles is very high. Especially around teens, and during the holidays. It’s not only our phones that distract us when we drive, but also the use of alcohol. Many people believe that they are fine to drive, that they are just buzzed. Even buzzed driving is drunk driving, and your vision can still be impacted. When you’re drinking around friends and you drive, you should either call an uber or stay at that friend’s house. The more we input drivers’ education into our daily lives, the more we will be educated, and understand how to be safe drivers. Driver education is very important, and needs to be implemented more into our lives. When we take our drivers ed courses they make sure to implement the scene about drivers who abuse the privilege of having a driver’s license, and end up in crashes, and ultimately die. The more we show that there are a lot of risks when it comes to getting your licenses the more people will be prepared, and know how to safely drive. Steps that we as a whole can take to reduce the number of deaths related to driving, is to put all distractions away the moment you get into your car. The phone is one of our world’s biggest distractions, and one of the biggest distractions when driving. If we put our phone away in the back seat, and turn off our ringer it reduces the likelihood of you trying to pick up your phone. If you don’t hear the buzz, you wont pick up the phone. Another step that we can take is not have our music up too high. With the music up too high that reduces the chance of someone hearing a police car or an ambulance that is trying to get by you.
I have seen one of my family members drive irresponsibly with the use of their phone. For years I didn’t say anything until we almost got into an accident. From that day I had to sit down with the family member and tell them that I didn’t feel safe driving with them because they were always on their phone while driving. We came to an agreement; I was able to tell him to get off his phone if I saw him while he was driving and he wouldn’t get mad. He still goes on his phone sometimes, but it’s not as bad as it was when he began. Steps that I can take to be a better driver is to put my phone in the seat next to mine or in the backseat so I won’t be tempted to pick it up. I can also use my judgement skills to determine if I should be driving today or if I shouldnt. I can help other people by making sure they understand that there are consequences by picking up the phone while you’re driving. It could not only hurt you, but other innocent people around you.
