Lose The Phone or Lose a Life
As a person who has been driving for almost four years now, and has been in a vehicle with someone else driving for much longer, it is easy to see the amount of mistakes a driver can make that put not only themselves but also everyone else inside and outside the vehicle in danger. Important steps that can be taken to help reduce the risk of deaths as a result of driving is the added features on modern aged cellphones of the ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode and the ‘Driving Mode’. These new features come preinstalled on practically every phone. As well as many applications now displaying a pop-up advising to not be using their application while driving. Not only that, but many modern cars now have a feature that displays the speed limit of the road the driver is currently on; this feature is displayed on multiple screens with the add on that will be outlined in red if the driver is going above the speed limit. A personal experience I have with this is one of my classmates in high school sadly passed away due to a speeding and inattentive driver. This driver was not only was speeding in a residential area, but on a street where a bus was signaling drivers to stop to allow student crossing, the driver was on their phone not paying attention and took the life of teenager. This is not a sole instance, this type event happens everyday all over the country, where one carless driver can cost the life of someone who has barley had the chance to live theirs. In the few ways I have been able to not only aid myself but also others to be a better and safer driver is by removing distraction from the driver. Whether that be personally having to take away someone’s phone so they will not text and drive with other people in the car, then need be.
