Fast and Serious
Suppose you were driving in a hurry, and before you knew it, living instead became a higher priority because you had only felt pain and agony after crashing in a brutal wreck. People don’t like to think about stuff like that, which is exactly why you should. Driving should be fun to everyone, but it is also a very serious responsibility that you should remember every time you sit behind the wheel.
According to DmvEdu.org, speeding is the number one cause of death in driving irresponsibly: totaling up to about 30% of all car-related deaths. This occurs because people decide to leave for a timed event last minute and attempts to still make it on time by pressing through traffic head first. These people are late for work, school, and appointments and so on. They take much bigger risks to still maintain time and strives to make this certain event over risking their lives: Which frankly doesn’t seem to be worth such risks.
There are very simple ways to assure this won’t happen: by leaving earlier. A little planning will not hurt you, in fact it may save your life. Planning to leave earlier, setting alarms, sticking to a schedule will prevent your last minute efforts to rampage on the road, putting not only yourself but others in danger. When you rush, you tend to make bold decisions and become easily tense and stressed. Being stressed makes you struggle with the most simple of answers to questions: Do you value your reputation more, or getting seriously hurt? Is it worth going faster than the intended speed limit to make it? Only for you to end up getting hit by a car that slowly pulled out in front of you last minute. It is much easier to be relaxed, even if you are perhaps a bit too early; you will generally make more rational decisions. Helping others is also so underrated on the road. By defensive driving, you are not only protecting your back, but others as well. By being extra careful, even if people honk there horn out of impatience for your lack of speed, it is still more important that you remember that you are doing you both a favor, not allowing road rage to dictate your actions. Others will also appreciate this hospitality and perhaps follow by example.
I have never been in a car crash, nor do I speed. I don’t speed because I value my life and everyone in the car instead of making time just in the matter of minutes. I would rather them be late to an event rather than to have to see them in a hospital wounded. There have been times I’ve been guilty of speeding, we all have. However, constantly weighing these options of life or death keep me well adjusted, and leaving earlier helps relax me tremendously.
Road safety is incredibly important, and we make big risks every time we decide to step in the car. There is no reason to stress and tense up behind the wheel and press the gas pedal as a solution to your problems: take the safe route.
