The Importance of Driving Safely
The day my dad got a call from the police was the day I became scared after a very long time. The news reached my ear that my mom had gotten into a very big accident and that she was alright but the car was completly totaled. My heart dropped for one second in a relief that my mom was okay but I really wanted to know exactly how this happened. It turns out, a wreckless driver had made the choice of changing lanes without looking and crashed into my mom’s car. The car crashed through the trunk and up until the front seat where my mom was sitting. When we went to the junkyard, I saw the car and how there wasn’t any part of it that looked like the windows anymore. Nor was there a structure to the car. From this incident, I had a little fear of how it would look once I got my license. Would I be able to drive safely? Would I be able to drive without risking my life or the people around me? Just within the year that I got my license, I have answered these questions to an extent to where I know I can drive safely. I can make this possible if I remind myself that there are thousands of people on the road with me driving in the same metal figures as me and one careless mistake can cause many lives.
Driving is a privilege that as the citizens of the United States, we have been given. This right can be quickly taken away from our actions. In fact, driving can be considered an art. It has to be done very carefully and precisely so that in the end, it comes out perfectly like the picture you want it to look like. If we think about the number of deaths that take place each year due to accidents that can be avoided, we can see how big of a problem this is. This is where Driver Education comes in and helps. This program educated the naive drivers about the dangers of driving and how to be safe on the road. It helps people realize exactly how to use the different gears within the car, how to recognize when to turn left and right, what to do in a state of distress. This program, through the knowledge it provides the people, helps them be able to understand the word “safe” and how to make it possible that even in a 5 minute drive, no one gets hurt.
The data from these car accidents have clearly shown how there have been more accidents in one year than the number of people that were killed during a national war. In fact, it is likely to increase due to the many teenagers or young adults that decide to drive when controlled by alchol or drugs. These items are essentially what causes many people to lose their lives. People that are innocent go out onto the road driving only to be killed by someone that was high on some sort of drugs. These accidents can be simply avoided if people realize that in the mere second they decide to goof off and drive, they are putting many people in danger. If someone does end up getting killed becasue of these mistakes, this driver will have to live the rest of their life knowing that he or she killed somone. That he or she killed somone that had a family, that had friends, that had dreams. Now the act has been done, there is nothing to bring them back to life. By avoiding the many distractions that can cause accidents like these, the number for the annual accidents will come down by itself.
The next time we go onto the road, always remember the many bad things that could happen through our actions. We don’t want someone to lose their life on the road. We don’t want to end up seeing a bouquet of flowers where the accident occured. We have the great ability to use our common sense and drive safely. Always help someone that might be having problems driving. Assist them if they aren’t feeling well. Keep them calm if in a state of distress. No matter what, try to stay away from things that could distract the art of driving because this is the only way we can keep every single person safe on the roads.
