Safe Driving

SAFE DRIVING

BY JACOB FITZPATRICK

Drivers Ed courses are required by law to teach us young teenagers the rules on how to drive safely. Young drivers can have fatal consequences if they do not go thru a driver’s education course. Drivers Ed helped to teach me the proper rules of the road and taught me how to drive safely on the road to prevent any future deadly accidents. Some of the most important things I learned from the Drivers Ed course is how critical it is to wear a seat below and more importantly how to wear it correctly. I also learned to avoid any distractions and to always know where you are going ahead of time even if you have to map it out before your trip. I also learned do not get into a car if I was sleepy or not alert. Self- awareness is so important and necessary to become a safe driver.

Without having taken a Drivers Ed course I wouldn’t really know how to drive safely on the road and how to take precautions to to prevent serious accidents. In order to prevent deaths on the road I have learned that anyone that gets into my car must also always have their seat belt on. I also learned to never get behind the wheel impaired from alcohol or drugs. It is so important to always have a designated driver assigned.

I have never been in a situation of being in a car accident or seen friends or family driving irresponsibly. But I can confidently say I know the steps to take to prevent accidents. I however have seen numerous accidents on the road that scared me and has taught me to really pay attention when I am behind the wheel. You can’t take your eyes off the road to play with the radio, text or turn around in car to talk to your friend. Any slight distraction in the car could turn fatal and at all costs need to be avoided.

There are a number of steps to take to be a better and safe driver as well as help others become safer on the road. You should always stay calm, look ahead, take responsibility for others and truly know your car. One must be patient on the road. If there is heavy traffic, construction and other actions of drivers that could lead you to make poor choices, please have patience and make good decisions. If everyone follows these steps there would be less accidents on the road.

To sum up everything I have been talking about it is so critical to know the speed limit at all times, stay sober, drive with confidence and patience and to also always keep your eyes on the road. All the things I learned in my Drivers Ed course I will never forget when I open the door to my car and get behind the wheel. Please remember not only is your life in danger but the life of the kids that choose to get in the car with you. Stay safe on the road!
