Safety is one of the most important factors that people should look at while driving in a vehicle. When driving a vehicle people can be a good driver or someone who can’t drive at all. These days it is becoming more common for road accidents to occur, many people lose their lives in road accidents. People should pay attention while driving and avoid any distraction that can take their attention away from driving. As a driver it is important to understand the responsibility to keep his or her vehicle in good condition to avoid any events to occur. When you are driving you are responsible for one’s life and the life of others rests with the driver of the vehicle. There are different types of drivers on the road, from teenagers to the elderly. Just because you have a driver’s license doesn’t necessarily mean that you have common sense and responsibility on the road. It is important to understand the fundamentals of safe driving and practice them every time you go on the road. I will share some tips for safe driving. When parking, be aware of signs of failure, fire hydrants, the location of the bus stop, parking restrictions during times of the day, and parking spaces that are restricted. The number one major cause of motor vehicle accidents is distracted driving. Phones are the main cause of this problem, 23 percent of the individuals that text and drive are most likely to get into a car accident from those who don’t. Text can wait but your life can be taken away in a split second. Putting your phone away until you reach your destination is worth it rather than getting distracted on the road. You must know the traffic laws and driving practices that help traffic move safely. Traffic laws are made by the federal provincial and municipal governments and the police for each level do enforce them. If you end up breaking a traffic law, you can be fined, sent to jail, or lose your driver’s license. When driving you must be courteous. When being a courteous driver it means giving other driver’s space to change lanes, not cutting them off and signalling your turns and lane changes properly. You have to be able to see dangerous situations before they happen and respond to them quickly and effectively. You need to have defensive driving which is based on visibility, space and communication which is key when driving. You need to be aware of traffic in front, behind and beside you at all times. Constantly keep your eyes moving, and check your mirrors. Managing the space around your vehicle lets you see and give you time and space to avoid collision. Communication is key because when you communicate with other drivers to see you and know what you are doing. Make good eye contact with pedestrians and drivers at signal or at intersections. Safe driving is a very important task for an individual. The way you act behind the wheel is important for your life and others. We can change the way we do things to make the roads better. Always remember to drive safely.
