How We Can Eliminate Reckless Driving
How We Can Eliminate Reckless Driving
Throughout our lives, we reach great milestones, every single one significant in its own way, marking a new chapter in our lives. Learning how to drive is one of those great milestones that alters the way in which we choose to pursue life. All around the world, different people of different ages are learning how to drive. Although everyone interprets driving differently, there is one shared concept about driving: driving safely. Thousands of individuals die as a result of a negligent driver. What could have been the next doctor with the cure to cancer, the first astronaut to land on Mars, or a mother on her way home to her family after a long day of work, gone in an instant because of a missed stop, an oblivion to a sign marked “One Way,” or the ignorance to the speed limit, not allowing enough time for a complete stop. The only way in which we can eliminate the deaths of these innocent individuals is by making sure that every driver goes through the proper driving instruction that stresses the importance of following the rules and regulations each state has in place that ensures the safety of the driver, their passengers, and pedestrians. Driver’s education teaches future drivers all of the precautions that need to be taken when driving. Without driver’s education, drivers would not know the importance of things such as blinkers, stop signs, double solid lines, following the speed limit, and so much more.
Although I have not been in a car accident, there have been various instances in which I witnessed reckless driving. I have been on the road when two vehicles start racing each other, I have seen intoxicated family members take the wheel, and I have seen my friends on their phones while driving on busy streets. So many individuals drive recklessly and do not realize it, leading to unnecessary deaths, but this could all be prevented. To ensure the well-being and safety of others as well as myself, I make sure that when I am practicing driving, I am with an adult who has earned their license and who is in a position to watch me carefully. Moreover, I always make sure to place my phone in the glove compartment so that I am not tempted to use it while driving. Besides these simple steps, I believe more can be done to eradicate reckless driving. I believe carpool/taxi services should have reduced prices for those who are not in the right condition to drive. Moreover, these driving services should be more readily available to those who wish to utilize these services at businesses that sell alcoholic beverages, such as nightclubs. If there were taxi services available for immediate use at these businesses, there would be a significant reduction in those who drive drunk. In addition to that, there should be legislation in place that prohibits car manufacturers to create cars that are capable of dramatically exceeding most speed limits. By creating a car that can easily exceed a speed of 100 miles per hour, car manufacturers are encouraging individuals to drive recklessly. Although much more can be done to reduce the number of deaths related to reckless driving, starting with just these three steps can significantly reduce the number of individuals that die from reckless driving.
Reckless driving has the potential to impact us all, either directly or indirectly. Going through the proper driving instruction helps keep our roads safe and our loved ones with us. We all have to work together to completely eradicate reckless driving. Whether we are changing legislation or we are changing the habitual actions we partake in while driving, we can discourage and prevent reckless driving.
