Car Crash

When you come too, you start to open your eyes. They burn from the smoke coming from your car and you can smell a mix of fire, burnt tires and gas in the air. You look around but you don’t recognize where you are, your upside down. You hear faint noises of people talking, but cannot make out what they are saying. Theres glass everywhere and blood dripping down your face. Your old lukewarm coffee from the beginning of the day is now spilt all over your car. Everything is turned around. It all started, on a beautiful Friday afternoon, it was the perfect temperature, warm but not too hot. You throw your soccer bag into the truck of your car and get into the driver’s seat. You start up the car and make sure to roll all your windows down. A log and tiering soccer practice just ended, but its Friday so you wanted to jam out in the car. On your way home, the breeze was flowing through your hair and you’re listening to the radio. You’re enjoying the music but it could be better. You pull up to a stop light and as your sitting there you decide to pull out your phone. You then proceed to, turn off the radio and put your own music on, and put your phone down. You look up and the light switches from red to green, and you continue to drive. You’re now belting out “Hey There Delilah” but its ruined by “bing..bing”..it sounds like “hey..bing…thei..bing…liah..bing” you’re thinking who could be sending me so many messages. You’re not almost to the next stop light but decide to pick up your phone anyways. You grab your phone and see your best friend had sent you five messages about the soccer gossip, and they just kept coming. You love the gossip so you keep reading. You then take your hand off the steering wheel so you can type back. The more messages you receive and sent; they glue your eyes to the screen. Until you realize you’re passing the stop light before your house. You run through the red light and go into oncoming traffic. The cars tried to swerve but inevitably a car hits you, causing you to flip. You were in a car crash, they tell you. You have no serious injuries but you caused another driver to become paralyzed. Because of you, you caused someone’s entire life to change, all because that text could wait, 5 more miles. With advances in technology, comes more distractions in the car. When you’re driving, it is your responsibility to make good choices so you can drive safely. Some steps we all can take to be better and safer drivers is putting our phone away so it is not reachable. Getting rid of the temptation will hopefully stop giving into it. Drivers should educate themselves every year on rules of the road, and educate themselves. Remember, when you are driving, focus on the road, turn down the music and pay attention. It might not be as fun but it’s better than being seriously injured or dying.
