Drive Safe Kids

Has flying on a plane, or the thought of flying on a plane, ever frightened you? If so, you might be surprised to find out that “every single time you step on a plane, no matter how many times you fly, you are nineteen times less likely to die than in your car,” (Wilson, 2020). Although many people face fears of flying on planes every day, the truth is, not many people realize the risks of driving on the road; this is crucial to understand the importance of safe driving.

Understanding the importance of safe driving is key to prevent deaths as a result of driving. All drivers should be aware of their surrounding when driving, be cautious but not hesitant, always be sure their vehicle is safe and meets all legal requirements, and not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Taking precautions before driving is the best way to prevent deaths on the road. Failing to take precautions before driving might leave you regretting your decisions later on.

Recently my mother was driving with me in the passenger seat and was briefly distracted by a deer in a field. She directed my sight to the deer when another deer unexpectedly jumped in front of our car. I remember watching the deer almost fly through the air because we had hit it so hard. The damage to the car was so severe, it ended up being totaled. The regret of letting ourselves be distracted for one second lingered throughout the following days.

Although no one was injured and no one other than us suffered consequences, you can only imagine what the consequences could have been if we allowed ourselves to be distracted in another situation. Imagine if my mom had been distracted in the driver’s seat and, instead, had a little boy or girl dart out in front her car. As you can see, failure of being aware of your surroundings while driving can lead to great suffering and pain to everyone around you as well as all other precautions you could take before driving.
