Safe Driving Essay

Driving can be a safe thing, also an unsafe thing. When people turn 16, the

first thing they think is, “Heck yes! I can drive at any time and anywhere I want to go! I don’t have to base my schedule off my parents schedule anymore!” People don’t think, “Now that I can drive I need to make sure I always drive as safely as possible.” People’s thought processes about driving need to be changed. People need to think about driving as safely as they can all the time, not how fast they can get there. Car accidents are happening every year and people are dying from them.

It’s important that before you get your permit you take a drivers training

course. Drivers training teaches you the importance of driving safely. When everyone who is able to drive a vehicle, has taken a drivers training course, the roads are safer than if people are driving without the class. Taking the drivers training class reduces the number of deaths from driving. When I took my drivers training course I learned the basics on how to drive but I also learned the rules of driving safely. For example, I learned you must stay at least 20 feet away from a stopped school bus when it has its flashing lights on. That way, in the winter, when the roads are icy, people are staying far away enough from a bus that if their car starts slipping they will be far enough away from the bus to not hurt anyone. If people stopped on the busses tail and the roads were icy, they could possibly run over kids getting on and off the bus.

When driving, it’s important that the driver does not use their phone. Phones

are distracting. For example, my mom will be talking to me while I’m playing on my phone and I will not understand anything that she tells me. If we can’t talk to people while being on our phones, we shouldn’t be driving while being on our phone. When the hands free law was set in place in August of 2019, that was an important step to making our roads safer. Now, we all need to follow the hands free law so our roads will be even safer. A law can be put in place, but it only makes our world safer if everyone follows it. I don’t see nearly as many people on their phones anymore as I did before the law was put in place, but I still do see people on their phones.

I have never been in a car accident. My family friends have. Their family was

coming home from visiting family. The family didn’t have a stop sign but the car coming from the other direction did have a stop sign and the car blew the stop sign and ran into my family friends. Their car flipped and landed upside down in the ditch which was filled with water. The dad was driving and had a pocket knife in his pocket and cut himself out of his seat belt with his knife and unbuckled the rest of his family. They had a little girl who was about two years old and she had seatbelt imprints a few days later when we saw them. The other car had a passenger who was pregnant and ended up losing the baby.

A step that I can take to be a better and safer driver is not taking driving for

granted, to be serious about it all the time. Driving isn’t something that everyone gets to do, it’s a privilege that everyone has to earn. If somebody shows that they should not get their driving privileges anymore, and a cop sees that, the cop can take it away. If somebody gets a minor, their driver’s license is suspended for 30 days. If somebody gets caught driving too early or without an adult when needed, their license can get suspended. I take driving very seriously and whenever I get in my car to drive, I always make sure I’m in an okay mood to drive. If I am mad, I take a minute to breathe before I drive. It’s much better to get somewhere late and safe then not at all.

In conclusion, everybody need to take a drivers training class before they drive

because drivers training teaches you how to drive and the rules of driving. When somebody is driving, they should never use their phone. Phones are distracting when talking to somebody, they are distracting when driving a car and could cause an accident. Car accidents happen and can cause injuries and sometimes death. To be a safe driver, I need to be serious about driving. Nobody, including myself can take driving for granted, it’s a privilege everyone has to earn.
