Safety First and Foremost in Driving
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, in 2018, the fatal crash rate per mile driven was three times higher for drivers sixteen to nineteen years than drivers over twenty. It is important to take driver’s education to avoid taking either your life or another’s. Most people learn driving either with parents or relatives. While this gives a basic understanding of driving, there are so many situations in driving you can get into that your parents or relatives do not remember what to do in that situation. One night, I was doing my driver’s education and I was reading about one-way streets and I asked my dad if there is a white line to the left of the one-way lane because the driver’s education there was. He said that there probably was one but he just never notices it. This is why driver’s education is important because everyone is going to have the same experiences in driving such as red light but everyone is going to have different experiences such as an ambulance crossing twice with a yellow light. Driver’s education is there to get you ready for any situation you encounter so you can keep yourself and others safe.
Whenever you are driving, make sure you are checking all your surroundings and do not rush. Rushing in a car could cause you to miss out on some details that could endanger you or other drivers. For example, running late for work or school, which causes panic because people do not want to arrive at school or work late. Let’s say a person runs through a two way stop sign because they do not want to be late and the person sees no cars. However, since this person did not stop at the stop sign, they did not have enough time to recognize a car was coming and this causes a fatal accident. Now, instead of being late one day, this person is now late every day and the other person in the other car now can not see his or her children. This was a situation that is avoidable, if this person did not rush it and stopped at a stop sign which is made for a reason, and checked all the surroundings, even the ones the person can not see at their position, passengers in both cars would be saved.
Being a safer driver can help you and other drivers on the road while driver’s education can teach you techniques and rules that can help with driving safer. While driving is one of those things that a sixteen-year old wants to do immediately, proceed with caution, learn driving thoroughly as it will help everyone on the road stay safe.
