In our society today, many individuals look forward to turning sixteen so they can acquire their driver’s license. Yet before we even are allowed to take the road test, we will first have to finish drivers ed. The importance of drivers ed is that it teaches us the privilege of being able to drive, the rules of the road, the tips and tricks to even just parking, and safety rules. This allows the future drivers to fully understand what they are signing up for. Drivers who don’t complete drivers ed are far more likely to encounter a crash than those who do attend the course.
Drivers ed is just the first crucial step in obtaining a completion card. After that, you are granted an attempt to take the permit test. With that being said you still have a long way to go with hours of practice at home and with an instructor.
Many steps can be taken to reduce the number of car crashes. We need to understand that driving high or under the influence or even falling asleep is serious, it can occur to anyone if you let it. By stressing the importance in the course, at home, and in school could prevent it, allowing people to understand that there are actual consequences to their actions. Some consequences are no driver’s license, higher insurance rates, or death. Also remember when you enter a car that you’ve never driven before to adjust the appliances to your liking, being aware of surroundings and to just be smart about it.
I have been in a car accident on a family vacation, it wasn’t pleasant. Even though it was only a minor accident, there were still a great deal of paperwork to fill out and medical checks. I have also witness people drive under the influence or illegally. Sometimes you don’t even realize they are high because they are able to hide it until they tell you. Frequently people from my high school will drive when they don’t have their license. Most parents allow them to, or just don’t realize it.
Some steps I can take to becoming a better and safer driver is just being patient. Being patient allows my brain to think. By allowing myself time in between stops, would not only help reduce stress but also car crashes. When I’m in a hurry, I seem to make quicker decisions. I have been lucky so far but since winter is nearing, we all should be more cautious when driving.
In conclusion, I think it’s important to understand that when you drive reckless you are not only putting yourself at risk but also the passengers and the people on the road with you. We all probably have room for improvement and to take reminders. However just remember that we still are learning. Remember to always wear your seatbelts and just keep alert.
