Driving While Influenced
Driving While Influenced
The education of new drivers and drivers, in general, are extremely important, especially to save lives. With drivers having the proper education, they can learn simple safety precautions like always wearing their seatbelt and not driving in dangerous weather, but they can also learn what effects their actions can have on themselves and others. By also making drivers aware of newer safety precautions, like not texting while driving, which has recently increased the deaths due to driving, will truly make drivers think about how such a simple action can kill someone in seconds. Having educated drivers will keep roads safer and will save lives.
Some steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths by driving is to educate drivers by using statistics and facts. By showing drivers the facts of dangerous driving and its consequences will make them feel more emotionally connected and will most likely reduce their chances of having those actions. Another step that can also be taken is to have more laws be put in place regarding dangerous driving. Right now there are few laws in place for texting while driving and other dangerous acts of driving, but having law enforcement enforce these laws more or even raising the fine for violating these laws, will teach drivers that their actions have consequences.
I have never been in a collision before, but I have seen friends and family members driving irresponsibly. The most common action I see is not wearing a seatbelt while driving or while being in the passenger seat. When this happens, I make them aware of what could happen if we got in an accident and how easy it is to just be a safe driver. Buckling a seatbelt takes less than thirty seconds to do, those thirty seconds can change your life and others’ lives forever. The second most common action I see is texting while driving. I do not approve of texting and driving, especially when I am in the vehicle. When I notice the driver doing this I either tell them to pull over if they need to send a message or I tell them to put their phone away until we get to the destination. There is no exception to having any type of cellular device on in a vehicle unless other passengers are using them, not the driver. Now more than ever, it is easier to have your phone right in front of you while driving, especially when companies are selling gadgets to make your phone more ‘hands-free’. Even if your hands are on the wheel your eyes need to be on the road in order to safely drive.
Some steps I can take to be a safer driver is to always make sure that my phone is away while driving, wear my seatbelt, and to stay at a responsible speed. Other ways that I can make sure that others are safe drivers are by telling them to stay off their phones, wear their seatbelts, not to be under the influence, and just to be a safe driver no matter what.
