The Importance of Drivers Education
Driver education is the thing you need to have instilled into your brain before you become a frequent driver on the road. Every single driver needs to obey rules and laws put in place on each road to increase everyone’s safety. It teaches you how to be aware of your surroundings, specifically other people, and how to adapt to difficult situations while driving. Drivers need to know when they can turn, stop at red lights, and slow down at stop signs to help reduce deaths as a result of driving.
I believe that drunk driving is one of the biggest causes of deaths by driving, but it leads me to a couple of conclusions. We cannot have any drunk drivers if we want to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. Driving while you are drunk puts too many people at risk: the driver, passengers, other cars, and pedestrians. As a society, our leaders need to educate young drivers about the effects of drunk driving to try and limit their future reckless action. All drivers need to take pride in driving safely without alcohol in their system to protect everyone else. It’s similar to our coronavirus situation we live in now; we need to wear masks and social distance for the safety of others. However, as everyday drivers we need to be focused and aware of our surroundings just in case someone around us is drunk driving. Another step we need to take as a society is to eliminate the texting drivers on the road. The outcomes of this can be just as horrible as those of drunk driving. The parents of young drivers should be the first line of communicating these risks to their children. They need to be constantly telling their kids to not drink and drive or text and drive because it will keep their kids safe while keeping everyone else on the road safe.
I have experienced a car accident and a family member of mine has also been involved in an accident. I experienced a car accident in elementary school where a big truck hit my dad’s car side to side. There was contact and friction for a good couple of seconds. It was definitely frightening because the truck was so big and close to our sedan and it happened on the most right lane of a highway. I can’t recall the exact reason why the truck driver came in contact with my car, but I can assume he was tired and/or not focused because the accident occurred early in the morning on the way to school. My mom and I were picked up by another car so I could go to school, and my dad had to go with an insurance agent to fix his car. One of my cousin’s has also had a couple of experiences with accidents. In one of those accidents he had to get the car towed away, and another accident caused his family to pay significant repairs on the car. Luckily, he is safe through all those accidents and no one else involved in those accidents were significantly hurt. He has learned from his past actions, and is a great driver today.
I am not a driver myself yet, but I do try to encourage good driving practices throughout the drivers in my family. I am always reminding my dad, uncles, and cousins to stay off their phones while driving, I will even pick up their phone call for them if it is urgent. My family is all terrific drivers, and don’t really need my tips, but it is always good to get a refresher to ensure safety.
