Be Safe on the Road

Driver Education Initiative Award:

In the Driver’s Seat Scholarship

Going from home, to work, to the store, then back home is pretty difficult on foot, so the automobile is a great way to get around. In any case that you will need to drive, you will need to do it in such a way that you, the driver, your passengers, and other motorists don’t get injured.

Knowing the rules and procedures to avoid potentially dangerous situations is critical to getting into the driver’s seat. It was said in 2017, that driver’s education lowered the number of car crashes by 4.3% and convictions by 40%, which shows that the more you know, the more likely you are to return back home to your loved ones.

Eliminating distractions is a key element in road safety. As we’ve always known, drugs and alcohol can cause you the most harm to your brain and senses and when on the road, they won’t lighten up. Abiding by the actual “Rules of the Road” will also lessen the number of deaths while driving.

It was scary to hear that my mom was in the hospital after a car accident in 2013. It was nice to know that I was fine, but to see her in so much physical pain broke my heart and until this day, she still laments over her back and shoulders aching.

One thing that I am certain that I will do to be a better driver is to be observant of my surroundings. Ensuring that my side and rear-view mirrors are in the right positions and taking time to move into the next lane will do me wonders. Again, distractions are not wanted. Maybe after 2-3 years of driving will I play music in my car, but before that, I will need to be focused on the road and the road only.

Accidents have the ability to irreversibly change lives for the worst, so do your part and be safe on the road.
