Why Driver’s Education is Crucial for Life

Why Driver’s Education is Crucial for Life

Tommy Lasorda once said, “Baseball is like driving, it’s the one that get home safely that counts.” Throughout the history, one can accumulate the amount of details and accidents provoked by car accidents that are preceded by reckless and unsafe driving. According to the National Safety Council, in 2019, an estimated number of about 38,800 people lost their lives due to car crashes and about 4.4 million people were severely injured. Road injuries are one of the top ten causes of death according to the World Health Organization. Reckless driving is not joke; therefore, driver’s education is dire and compulsory before one should receive their driver’s license.

A driver’s education prior to obtaining a driver’s license can teach one the necessary rules another vehicle control and traffic maneuvers. A true driver’s education has shown results in reducing the number of accidents and deaths due to the practice and actual lessons that prepares teenagers how to be safe on the roads. Sixteen-year-olds in fact have a higher crash rate than drivers than any other age due to their experiences. Therefore, driver’s education not also teaches many about the rules of the road, but also allows you to safely practice driving with the knowledge of rules and safety measures, which is drastically different from learning it with a relative or family member. There are many responsibility and pressure you uphold as the driver because it is not only your life at stake, but many others too. Once you learn about the responsibilities you hold getting behind the wheel and the consequences, there are also practice courses that allows you to practice the different structures of the roads, types of turns, and correct parking before entering onto the real streets. This preparation does not only keep the driver safe, but other pedestrians and drivers also.

Personally, I wish I had taken driver’s education. Not only would it have reduced my car insurance but could have also prevented many accidents I have been in and/or caused. I have just recently started driving in March of 2019; yet, I have been in more accidents than I can count. Luckily, no one was hurt and there were only minor accidents, but it would have been so much worse and someone could have truly gotten hurt. My parents are immigrants; therefore, their teaching methods are a lot different from many, so it has been a struggle trying to learn all the rules by myself; Driver’s education would have immensely helped because it could potentially lower the risks of my life and those around me and saved my parents a lot of money. As I continue driving and learning, I have decided to be more vigilant on the road and to always pay attention to my surrounding and not become distracted by menial things. By becoming distracted, I can lose focus and get into an accident that could severely not only injure myself but other drivers around me. Furthermore, I will continue to be a more careful and less reckless driver. Being a reckless driving is extremely dangerous and there are many precautions that everyone who gets behind the wheel should keep in mind, for one wrong brake and it could negatively impact the lives of others. All in all, driver’s education is an extremely crucial step in becoming a safe and careful driver.
