Driver’s Safety
Being a North Carolina driver for more than five years I have learned a lot about driver’s safety. I believe the importance in driver’s education is creating attitudes and behavior to help new drivers understand the risk that is involved in operating a motor vehicle. In order to create these attitudes and behavior towards driving new drivers need to be shown the data and stats of car accidents each year. Students need to be aware that most car accidents happen to young individuals who don’t follow the rules and regulations of the road. The steps that can be taken to reduce the number of people related to driving is to advertise to Gen z and Millennials. Since Gen z and Millennials are the generation of technology and social media. Having social media presents will make young drivers aware of the repercussions of disobeying the safety protocols. For example, commercials showing the issues of texting while driving or driving drunk/high etc. Advertising the problems and risks of driving through social media will help new drivers and current drivers.
In my experience, I have been in a couple car accidents that helped me learn how to become a better driver in the future. The first thing that I learned is that even a small incident has unhappy ramifications, whether it is the insurance rate going up or replacing a new bumper. The most important thing I remembered after my car accident is that ‘it could have been worse’. But I understood that if I did not learn the valuable rules of the road, the accident could have been much worse. So, I became more aware of how a little mistake can lead to dire consequences. The second thing I learned from the car accident is to remain calm if there was no harm to anyone in the accident. My car accident I was upset about having to fix my car and replace what was broken. But I learned that if there was no harm to anyone then everything is replaceable. The third thing that I learned is that wearing your seat belt can save more lives than people think. When I first received my driver’s license, I would drive without my seat belt for a couple of months without worrying about the risk. Then one day I was on the highway and realized that the car in front of me hit the brakes quickly and I suddenly slowed down quickly. I was very close to hitting the car in front of me on the highway, after that day I always wear my seat belt for my protection. Being the older brother of four siblings I make sure to be a good example to my brothers and sisters for driver’s safety. My younger brother just recently received his license, and I am going to ride with him to see what he has learned. I will teach him the rules and lessons I have learned so he can avoid the mistakes that I made in order to become a better driver.
