Take Your Time
As we grow up we all strive for freedom. You no longer have to ask your parents for rides or ask them to go hangout with friends. Like most teenagers, being able to drive is something that everyone accomplishes during High School. Having your license is one step closer to becoming an adult, something that we all look forward to. Although this sounds so exciting, we often rush into things. We still have no idea what we are doing and we need to spend some time learning before jumping behind the wheel and heading down the road of life.
Taking the time to go through drivers education is so important to be able to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. You can’t just hop into the car and know exactly what it is capable of. Getting into a car is like loading a gun. If you don’t know how to shoot you could hurt yourself or another person.. Just like driving. The steps that we can take to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is first, knowing how the vehicle works. You have to know how the vehicle runs to get a sense of what you will be working with, such as the gas, breaks, emergency breaks, etc. The second step is to practice. You must practice how to drive and the skills that you will need to know in order to drive safely. Having different safety precautions and scenarios are very important as well, for example, weather conditions.
Personally I have not been harmed or ever been put in danger with a vehicle. Although, my mom and my other six siblings have been into a car accident. The wheels of our Excursion locked up on my mom and they sent them rolling, and rolling for quite a while. Thankfully my family used seatbelts and the airbags went off. My mom shattered her tibia because her leg went out of the open window. My brother broke his wrist from the airbag, and my sister broke both of her wrists from being jerked around. It was no fault of my mom, just a malfunction of the vehicle, but my family is safe and sound.
There are many ways that you can become a better driver. Children my age like to blast loud music. The problem with this is that you may not be able to hear emergency sirens and you could be in the way of the vehicle from passing you. Another problem is being on your phone. Turn it off and put it away! Pay attention to what is in front of you. We are not replaceable. How can you become a safer driver?
