That Poor Red Jeep

Without being properly educated on a subject, it is rather difficult to understand an assignment that would relate to that subject. Those who begin to drive without first taking a driver’s education program are put in this exact situation. A driver’s education program teaches students the rules of the road as well as what to do when they are put in certain situation while driving. An example of a situation could be what to do if there is a stopped school bus. The cars behind the school bus understand that they are to stop while students board or leave the bus, but what about the cars in the opposite lane? Without being told this, most people would simply keep driving and this could lead to disaster. An unstopped car in the opposite lane of the bus could hit a child who is getting off of the bus. If every driver went through a driver’s education class, this type of accident, along with many others, could be prevented.

I have a lot of personal experience with car accidents. Throughout my childhood I have been in many accidents, one that was life threatening. When I was a toddler my mother had me seated in the front seat. She hit another car head on and brought us both to the emergency room. I am unsure of the details of the accident, due to the fact that I was only a toddler, but I have heard from my other family members that it was a terrible accident. I have been involved in other car accidents as well. The most recent accident that I can remember happened when I was in the fifth grade. Before school, my mother would take me to my grandma’s house because she had to get to work early in the morning. My grandmas house was down a large hill, so in the winter the hill can be a nightmare. It was an icy, cold morning, I could see my breath on the window. My mother was driving down the hill that lead to my grandma’s house and caught a big patch of ice. Our red jeep slid off the road and toward another car, but luckily my mother was able to steer away from the other car. Instead of colliding with another car, our jeep rolled into a ditch. My mom was late for work that morning and I was able to skip school to stay with my grandma the rest of the day. No one was injured in that accident but either way I remember every detail, even the radio station playing.

A great majority of car accidents can be easily prevented with a few key details. The most important thing that would protect yourself along with others when it comes to driving is enrolling in a driver’s education course. The course teaches you so many useful things and it is arguably the most important course one can take throughout their teen years. Another extremely important thing is be stay away from distractions. Distractions do not only include a phone. Distractions can be other people in the car, music playing, or even other people or things outside of the car. Know yourself and know your distractions. By doing these things you will be able to better protect yourself along with others around you.
