Look Twice and Save a Life
The significant number of deaths as a result of driving is a significant issue throughout the United States but are often overlooked due to the high number of reckless drivers. Distracted driving is the leading cause of car accidents and the mortality rate for car accidents is high. Driver education is an essential method of preventing these deaths as education often leads to awareness. Awareness of how to prevent these deaths will cause drivers to become significantly more responsible. This responsibility will lead to a decrease in the number of accidents and, as a result, the number of related deaths in the United States.
Education is a critical step towards reducing the number of deaths related to driving. There are many influential methods of creating awareness that may not have even been considered yet. Hosting awareness campaigns or events in your community to spread the word, attending city council or town hall meetings on the subject of safe driving , encouraging your friends and family to attend these meetings with you, and starting awareness pages on social media platforms are all influential and creative methods of spreading awareness. Creating or participating in groups that advocate for safe driving and support people in the community that have been impacted by car accidents or reckless driving is another positive and extremely beneficial way to influence society and make an impact.
It is fundamental for people to take responsibility and play their part in reducing the number of car accidents and deaths. A vast majority of accidents and deaths are as a result of reckless driving and the drivers are typically at fault. We as human beings need to learn to take responsibility for protecting the safety of ourselves and the people around us by making better choices and doing our part to make the world a safe place.
I was involved in a car wreck with my family when I was younger and it was a frightening experience. Fortunately, it was a minor accident and nobody was injured. This experience has significantly influenced my desire for safe and secure driving and ensured my awareness and level of defensive driving that I exhibit when I am behind the wheel. The steps that I can take to become a better and safer driver is to educate myself on driving safety and to increase my level of awareness while I am in the driver’s seat. I can be sure to follow all traffic laws including always driving the speed limit no matter what the circumstances may be, ensuring that I stop at all traffic lights even if I believe that I can make it before the light turns red, and being increasingly aware of my surroundings as well as the cars and pedestrians in my vicinity to prevent as many accidents as I possibly can.
To aid others in being safer drivers, I can encourage them to follow all safety laws such as driving the speed limit and by encouraging them to increase their awareness of their surroundings and to focus on the road. When I am riding in the car with other drivers, I can do my best to not be a distraction by trying to get their attention or by engaging them in conversation.
