The Silent Killer

The Silent Killer:

Each year thousands upon thousands of people are killed in the U.S. because of driving related accidents. Being educated on how to drive safely is extremely important for new drivers, preventative measures can be taken to prevent these accidents, and further experiences with car crashes can be reduced; therefore, it is vital to understand the steps we can take to prevent these devastating accidents.

So how important is drivers education when it comes to driving safely? Well according to studies teens are roughly 25 percent more likely to have a fatal crash compared to those who have not taken the drivers education course. Teens who did not take the drivers course were also 75 percent more likely to get tickets such as speeding while those who did take the course were not. In addition to this driver education has been shown to be statistically significant when it comes to reducing driving accidents and therefore is vital when it comes down to reducing the number of deaths due to car crashes.

In addition to drivers education, steps must be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. This includes understanding traffic laws, laws and rules while driving, not driving when one is tired or sleepy, not driving when one is intoxicated or under the influence of illegal drugs, double check the blind spots, sit correctly and have hands on 9 and 3 o’clock position, pay attention to the road, reduce music and chatter in your car,try to avoid the fastlane, and avoid speeding at all costs . In addition to this, one should also make sure to not drive if they are underage or they have a medical condition preventing them from driving safely. Many other tips and tricks can be used but these are some of the most common things one should do to prevent deaths related to driving.

Personally I take these steps and drive safely. Fortunately I have no experience with accidents or anything of the sort but my family members have driven irresponsibly. Therefore I educated them on what they did wrong and now my family drives safely, responsibly. So what steps can I personally take to help prevent more accidents and to become a safer driver? Well I can reread the laws and rules on the road, always get my license renewed, constantly be updated on new laws and rules, keep my phone away while I am driving to prevent texting or misuse; make sure to drive when I am 100 percent comfortable, drive with my glasses or contacts 100 percent of the time, and last but not least drive calmly to prevent road rage.

Some of these steps can also be integrated into your guys’s life so make sure to implement them and take precautions! Please make sure to educate yourself, have some experience on the road, and wear your seatbelts! Click it or ticket! Make sure to be safe and educate others!
