The Reality of Driving

The Reality of Driving

As Americans we are constantly surrounded by traffic, from School to home or to work there will always be others on the road. Now while this can often be seen as an annoyance because it can delay your commute, but it is much more than that. This intense amount of traffic leads to large amounts of injuries and deaths, which makes sense it is a giant metal box traveling from 30 miles per hour to 100 miles per hour the amount of force produced by these machines are scary to say the least. We hurl these speeding death machines through freeways, back roads, neighborhoods, and around schools. If these machines are powerful enough to kill a deer then they can easily kill a human. Not only will you take a life from this world if you hit someone but you forsake your sanity in the process, there is no way you can feel fine after seeing someone die and know you were the one who caused it. This will lead to depression and force you into self-loathing to the point where you either take your own life or you turn to alcohol or some other substance abuse. Both of these are undesirable out comes at the very least and both have ramifications that will spiral out of control. The suicide will not only affect you but all your family and friend and put a damper on their lives, the substance abuse will lead to poor decisions and very likely if you every drive again into another accident where either you or someone else will get severely hurt or killed. Another issue with these devices is that as humans we aren’t meant to be traveling at up to 100 miles per hour and our reflexes cannot react fast enough to a situation at that speed which will again lead to yours or another’s death or harm. But there is a way to use these vehicles safer, and not just through the astounding technological advancement that have drastically improved the safety of the road, but to be educated in how to drive safely. With such a machine it is only logical to teach someone how to use it properly, if you gave a child a knife and they cut their fingers by trying to chop fruit it wouldn’t be the child’s fault it’s your fault for not teaching them the dangers that came with that tool. And we have some great institutes that can teach individuals how to drive safely utilizing the rules of the road in a respectful manner and keep people protected. I have been in a car accident while I was in the car with my mother while in the turning lane a man drove head on and crashed into us. The man was obviously being negligent and was quite possibly under the influence. It is because of individuals who do not respect the laws and rules of the road who endanger others. What I think could help is a much more in-depth ethical course, that would tackle the possible outcomes of such irresponsible decisions and teach them to be responsible not for them but for others. Because as humans we tend to be selfish and insensitive to other situations, but if you can show the grief that they can cause while they dive and teach them to be more empathetic the system in place will be more effective and will save more lives because more people will follow it.
