Driver’s Ed reform

The concept of driving as an individual often creates a source of anxiety for a lot of people, as it can seem scary to some. The traffic laws put in place, the handling of a vehicle, making sure you pay attention, it can put a lot of pressure on anyone, and oftentimes this feeling of being overwhelmed can affect our driving itself. The only viable solution to making sure that drivers are safe, and careful while driving is to further the importance of driver’s education, and to de-privatize the individual driver schools. This will help make driver’s education more affordable for all, creating more educated, and equipped drivers throughout the country. Not only will this reduce the general stress caused by driving, it will help reduce the numbers of accidents, and accident-related deaths caused by drivers, as it will help strengthen the community overall. Creating a more hands-on experience, and going over the details of driving during drivers education will also aid in the betterment of drivers, as the retention of driver’s post-school knowledge tends to dwindle based on what experiences they have behind the wheel. Paying more attention to not only what is absorbed, but also the retention of what was absorbed should be the main focus of driving, so drivers are more acclimated to situations on the road they may not encounter with common frequency. While i myself have not experienced anything significant or traumatic as a driver, i have seen countless accidental maneuvers made by my various peers, simply because they were not predisposed to what was going on. My mother, for example, was driving along a country road at one point in her 20s, and because she wasn’t attending to the iciness of the road, flipped over her car, and rolled into a ditch, simply out of a lack of attention paid.Another close personal friend of mine felt anxious while driving, and drove over a separating curb in a drive-thru window, simply due to a struggle she’s faced when it comes to spatial awareness. I believe imprinting upon new drivers the importance of spatial awareness and paying attention will help improve the driving community most significantly, as these issues are the most commonly noticed ive seen in my experience. Most people have been led to simply follow lines, and replicate the nauvers of other drivers, rather than simply driving with the awareness in mind of where their car is specifically in terms of space, and determining which turns and maneuvers they can and cannot execute in regards to. I think destigmatizing the desire to bandwagon your driving choices, and making illegal moves because you believe it will embrace the idea that you are a “cool” person is most important as well. Because driving can’t always be sexy in order to be safe. I also think it’s important to recognize good driving isn’t always comfortable driving, as when you are too comfortable, you aren’t being alert and observant, which can lead to being caught in situations not prepared for. To conclude, driving isn’t easy but it can be better for everyone with some general educational revision.
