Making the Roads Safer One Car Ride at a Time
Drivers Education is important in so many different ways. Drivers Education teaches you not only how to be a good drive and follow all the rules of the road but it also teaches you the meanings of many things on the road that you should keep your eye out for. Drivers education only teaches you how to be a safe driver. It would greatly benefit young drivers to also learn how to both spot and react to other drivers’ mistakes in order to keep you and the drivers around you safe.
There are many steps that could be taken in order to make the roads safer to drive on. One of the most important things you could do is to increase the severity of getting caught when under the influence of alcohol or other substances. If one of my friends or family members calls me and lets me know they’re intoxicated I’ll make sure to go out of my way to pick them up so they don’t hurt himself or anyone else. Another step that could greatly reduce the number of deaths related to driving would be taking driver’s education every 10 to 15 years to make sure that you are always up to date on the newest and most important rules of the road. One more step that could reduce deaths related to driving would be more on the road instruction by driving professionals before you receive your license.
One thing that greatly affects how safe someone drives is whether or not they’ve been in a car accident. People who have been in serious car accidents and were fortunate enough to be able to drive after are much safer on the road than someone who has never been in a car accident. I was in a severe car accident when I was an infant which totaled my mom’s vehicle and had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency care I don’t remember what exactly happened because of how young I was. I feel it still affected me as a driver because I was to get in an accident with someone who had their child in the car I would feel horrible for putting the child through that pain at such a young age.
One way I can keep the others around me from getting in car accidents is to point out if they are doing something on the road that they shouldn’t be. One example of this is if they happen to be texting someone I would ask them politely to put their phone away and focus on the road or have me text them for them so they can remain hands-free. One other option is to use a hands-free Bluetooth device when driving and if that doesn’t help then just lock your phone in the glove box or some other place out of sight. I have a hands free Bluetooth connector in my car so I’m always hands free and if I happen to receive an important message while driving that can’t wait till I get home I’ll pull over to the side of the road in a safe location to answer it. Another way I can help is by making sure everyone has their seatbelts on before I start driving. Especially when I’m driving, if I see that someone doesn’t have their seatbelt on I’ll immediately pull over to the side of the road and not continue driving until it is buckled.
These are just a few ideas of what we could do in order to make driving safer and improve the effectiveness of drivers education. Hopefully, these ideas can be implemented to keep everyone safe while on the road.
