Safe Driving
There are many ways of keeping yourself safe on the road. You have to do everything to ensure you, the people inside, and the people around you are safe. That includes following road signs, putting your phone down, staying sober, and focusing. We need to eliminate the deaths on the roads to make sure we are still walking into our homes to our families.
The importance of driver education to reduce the number of deaths resulting in driving is high. This allows the person to gain their license to learn vehicle control along with learning the rules of the road. The rules of the road are very important because you will need to know whether you are coming upon a curve, train tracks, or even a stop sign. These road signs are the top thing keeping people safe on the roads.
There are many steps drivers can take to reduce the number of deaths. One way is to stay off of your phone. You may not be on your phone but your phone buzzing and ringing is a way to catch your eye. You will need your two eyes on the road at all times. Another way is to stay sober. If you know you are going to a party or somewhere that you know you will get intoxicated find a designated driver or stay where you are at. The final thing is to stay focused. Being distracted is one of the biggest causes of death. Many people will be focused on loud music, changing the music, or even texting. This is a death wish for you and the people around you.
I have not personally experienced a car accident or had any of my family or friends drive recklessly. I have heard many tragic stories. One day, we had a woman come to talk to our school. Her story was about a drunk driver. She was on her way home with her daughter in the backseat and a drunk driver hit their car. Thankfully her daughter was okay but she had much damage done to her body. She went through many surgeries and years of physical therapy. She now is able to walk but is only allowed 1000 steps a day. People drink and drive thinking nothing will happen to them. Little do they know that they are changing other innocent people’s lives.
There are many steps people can take along with me. One of the main problems I see is people disobeying the speed limit. Many people often ignore it and speed. The speed limit and road signs are there for a reason. Another issue is that many people call on the phone. They think “well I am not texting and driving” and automatically assume that it is okay. What they do not think is that it is still a huge distraction to even have it in the front seat with you. Another big problem I see in my small town is no seatbelts. Many people say “the seatbelt puts me in more harm than not wearing one.” This is very false. The death rates of people who did not wear their seatbelts are extremely high.
In conclusion, there are many steps we can take to stay safe on the roads. We must obey the road signs, stay sober, stay focused, and stay strapped in. Do not think that you are invisible, anything can happen to anyone. Make sure that you’re not putting yourself and the people around you at risk.
