The Importance of Driver Education

The Importance of Driver Education

Many lives are lost every year due to circumstances on the road. Driving is a very useful, but risky task. There are many things you must be aware of before getting on the road. Sadly, many people skip the education part and go straight to driving. In order to reduce the lives lost in accidents, we need people to be educated in the field of driving.

Driving education is one of the most important things to have growing up. As you get to the teenage years, you tend to want to get out of the house more via driving. Teenagers aren’t always the most responsible people in the world, and trusting a teenager to drive on the public road without any driving knowledge would be insane. The importance of driver education can be life or death. Without it, you could end up hurting another person, or get yourself killed. Knowing how to drive, how to identify signs, and how to act in a certain situation out on the road is necessary to be a responsible driver. Some steps that can be done to reduce death on the road is making sure that everyone gets the correct education in the topic before actually driving. Many people drive without even getting their license. If we were to reinforce the necessity of getting your driver education, many more people would be more knowledgeable in the act of driving, reducing the risk of casualties out on the road. Personally, I’ve been in one accident, where someone did not give my car right of way, and ended up totalling my car. After experiencing this at a young age, I’ve realized this importance. Another way to reduce risk is make sure you yourself are doing your part. Make sure you stay responsible on the road. Never drink while driving, text or call while driving, etc. Before you point out someone else’s driving flaws, you have to make sure you yourself are following your own criticism. Following traffic laws and road laws are essential to staying safe. Another way that could reduce risks is reteaching some road laws and education even while you get older. Sometimes, as you grow older, you may forget many of the things you’re taught in drivers ed. This could be detrimental, and could be avoided if we were to refresh the knowledge of driver education once in a while growing older.

As someone currently going through drivers ed, I’m learning more and more how important driver education really is. It’s life or death. Knowing the laws of traffic could save another’s life, and even mine. Staying safe on the road starts with knowing about how to stay safe first. WIthout the education, you won’t be able to drive responsibly on the road, putting others in risk. We should serve others, and by being responsible and following the laws, we serve them by keeping them out of danger. I hope the road becomes less dangerous in the future, and that can only be done with action, not just plans.
