Driving is a crucial part of everyday life and is very prevalent in the United States. At a young age we taught the dangers of the road and the precautions that need to be taken to protect our safety. Driver education is a substantially important part in reducing the number of death as a result of driving. This education teaches drivers of all ages to know the dos and don’ts of the road. While the driver behind the wheel cannot control other driver’s actions they can control their own, by knowing what rules to follow such as stopping at a stop sign completely or knowing who has the right away, can prevent a serious injury or death caused by a car accident. Those who have driver licenses and have successfully passed drivers education all have been taught similar driving rules that way there are no discrepancies when driving. However, driver’s education sometimes is not enough to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. It is important for drivers to follow road signs and most important be vigilant when driving. As previously stated, one driver cannot control another driver’s action, by being aware of one’s surroundings and having controlled reflexes it can prevent a serious crash from occurring. Also, by making conscientiousness decisions to protect others such as not drinking and driving will have a huge impact on the safety of others, reducing the number of deaths related to driving. For those who are older and are starting to have impaired vision need to take a vision test to ensure that they are able to drive without putting those surrounding them in harms way. The biggest problem that is this world is facing concerning driving is texting and driving. With advancing technology, it is becoming easier and more tempting to be texting or even call someone while driving. This added distraction while driving greatly increases the chance of crashing into someone else. Even the hands-free operations that newer cars are offering add an unwanted distraction to driver. During driver’s education they stress how important it is to not text and drive, drink and drive, or simply be aware while driving but many do not follow these demands causing irreversible effects to the victims and their families.
Car accidents affect families and loved ones every day, personally I have experienced several car accidents. For example, a close family friend died in a motorcycle accident due to an elderly driver not being able to see properly. This driver rear ended my friends’ bike solely because he did not see him ahead. Another experience I have been involved in includes my school bus in high school being side swiped by a truck that did not bother to look before he pulled onto the highway. The impact of the truck rolled our bus and many of my fellow peers had be sent to the hospital, fortunately no one was too injured. To help others and myself stay safe on the road I would be sure to pay close attention to road signs, have my vision checked regularly to ensure that I can see properly, and be sure that myself and others do not drive when the conditions are not right. Overall, as a safe driver I would make sure that I am not putting others in harms while operating a vehicle.
