Driver Safety Education
Being a safe driver in this world is very important. Making sure to drive safe must be a priority to people behind the wheel, which is why Driver Education courses are required to become a licensed driver. These programs help teach young drivers the need to drive safe, how to be aware while driving, knowledge of the laws, and how to anticipate what other drivers will do. It helps these kids know how to properly work their vehicle, learn how to be safe during different weather conditions, and how to drive through traffic safely. Each of these things are important to be a safe driver. The Driver Ed. Courses also show the consequences of not safe drivers. They show how harmful it is when people drink and drive, drive while using drugs, driving distracted by phones or passengers, and driving while not paying attention to the things around you or other drivers. To make sure these numbers of deaths caused by the things mentioned before are reduced, drivers must understand that they have to be safe drivers. There are some steps that can be taken to make sure deaths related to driving are reduced. First, make sure your car is in good driving condition. Make sure the tires are good to drive on, your lights, blinkers, windshield wipers, and brakes work, and make sure your windows and mirrors are clean. Second, make sure to be well rested before getting behind the wheel. Being tired or sleepy is very dangerous for you and the people with you when you are operating the vehicle. Third, do not drink, do drugs, or be under the influence while driving. Doing these things before or while driving is irresponsible and very dangerous. Finally, make sure to not be distracted. Being on your phone, changing music, doing makeup or hair, or messing with your passengers takes your eyes off the road. By taking your eyes off the road, even if it is just for a second, makes the risk of being in an accident higher and more likely to happen.
I have never been in a car accident myself, but I know of family and friends who have been seriously injured and killed because of irresponsible driving. I have also been riding with family and friends who were not being safe drivers. When I noticed them being unsafe drivers, I try to remind them that being focused on driving and aware of what is going on is important for mine and their safety. For example, as my friends and I were driving to town after school one day, the girl who was driving was on her phone texting other people. I reminded her that by doing that she takes her eyes off the road and it could cause us to be in an accident. She realized that what I was saying was absolutely true and put her phone away and focused on being a safe driver. Without letting her know that, she could have ended up hurting the people in the car with her or even somebody else.
The steps I can take to make sure others and myself are safe on the roads are to be well rested before driving, make sure to be aware and anticipate what other drivers will do, do not be distracted or be distracting, make sure anybody that is driving is not under any influence of alcohol or drugs, and check to see if the vehicle I, or my friends, are driving are safe to drive.
