The Importance of Drivers Education

As a new driver and teenager who has completed a driver’s education course, I completely understand the importance of driver’s education and believe that driver’s education courses are very important when preparing to operate a motor vehicle because unfortunately the leading cause of death for teenagers is that of motor vehicles, often due to a lack of knowledge on the road. Some are drinking and driving, while others are simply just not paying attention. Skills like awareness, and safety is what drivers education teaches along with the rules of the road. The rules are there to keep you and others safe while driving and when we don’t follow these rules the consequences can be fatal. Operating a vehicle is a very daunting and serious task for anyone. Completing a driver’s education course prior to obtaining one’s license will help teenagers develop rudimentary vehicle control and traffic maneuvers. It teaches students how to safely operate a vehicle on busy interstates, at night, and during other dangerous driving circumstances. Although it may seem unimportant, driver’s education stresses the importance of adjusting a vehicle’s steering wheel, seat, and rear and side-view mirrors. It also allows for teens to practice communicating while driving, entering and exiting traffic, using turn lanes, changing lanes, and adjusting their vehicles’ speeds when necessary. In addition to practicing driving, teenagers learn about various traffic signals and markings on the roadway.Perhaps the most important skill to develop as a new driver is the ability to foresee hazards and unsafe situations. Other drivers and conditions are oftentimes much more dangerous than your own driving ability, but many young drivers are not experienced enough to identify potential dangers from other drivers on the road.I have friends who havent went to completed Driver’s Education course and as a result don’t practice safe driving habits, for example my friend Nate, who is one year older than me and lives in the city of Washington D.C was out driving one night with a couple of our other friends, in an attempt to race his friend in the other car he swerved passed a red Toyota that was directly in front of him as he speed to its bumper but his reflexes were too slow and in attempt to swerve in front of that red car his bumper was knocked out and was dragging the ground. Although this accident seems minor, the driving practices of my friend Nate could have caused him or someone else serious bodily harm. This is why it is important to abide by the rules of the road and practice safe driving because the consequences are costly. Not only could have someone gotten hurt but also the expenses to pay for Nate’s bumper were not cheap. Driving school has many benefits along with making roads safer. They also allow drivers to receive discounted rates on insurance If Nate had attended driving school he would have received a discounted rate on insurance and likely wouldn’t have the expenses he incurred.
