One Look

One Look

One look could lead to someone life being taken and even your own. If it is one text or one call and you think you can not wait so you take one look. Then at the split second you look up you have no time to change your decision and you crash. According to the National Safety Council cell phones are the cause to nearly 1.6 million crashes and with that nearly 390,000 occur each year from accidents caused by texting and driving. Now imagine how many of those people are teenagers. In society teenagers rely on social media and technology in their daily lives and they have not focused on the real impacts that their cell phones cause. In a study more than 101,000 American teenagers found that 38 percent reported texting while driving. The issue is that just one text could take away their lives, someone else’s, someones daughter, son ,husband ,father , etc. Yet teenagers are to careless to realize and the states are to careless to enforce this issue. Currently only 48 states have a law about texting and driving and many people either ignore this law or do not know about it because it is not as big of a focus as it should be. In america if the law on texting and driving will not be enforced there should be change. In each car that is in service and being driven there should be a place to place your cell phone before it starts. This is similar to those with a built in breathalizer but with cell phones. Cell phones are as big of an issue as drunk driving and underage driving. If we are anything alike you have lost someone in a car crash that you cared about and to know that it was caused by something you use in your everyday life is heartbreaking. I lost a friend because he wanted to check his phone as he drove up a hill thinking it was fine because no one was around and ended up crashing not only killing himself but 2 other people in the car with him. Driving is dangerous as it is and cell phones add a great factor no matter how good of a driver you believe you are. No matter what age you are you should never text and drive or be on a call because it is a distraction. As a teenager I would not want to drive on the roads that were already unsafe knowing every person around me did not care if I lived or died because they care more about a piece of technology. So before getting into a car you should truly think if that one look is worth losing your life or taking away someone else’s and if it is to you then you should not be driving.
