Drivers Safety
This is going to be on driver’s safety and some ways we can decrease the total number on accidents and deaths. Driver’s education is important for everyone to know because the smallest things can make a difference. Some facts that many might not know is “47% of people who died in car accidents weren’t wearing their seatbelts. That means, nearly half of all people killed by car accidents could have been prevented by seat belt safety exercises.” Another fact is “teens are ten times more likely to wreck”. “Part of this is due to little or no driving experience.” Driver’s education gives us an opportunity where we can practice are driving skills with a skilled driver. “Teen accidents can be prevented by educating your children about road safety.” There is an average of 3000 car accident deaths per day, and that number could be significantly reduced with the help of driver’s education. Driver’s education can help reduce numbers because if drivers quit looking at their phone, or start following the rules of the road, then we would start to see a decrease. However, many teen drivers struggle with not looking at their phone because whenever it dings, it is instinct to pick it up.
Some steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths is quite simple, but it is hard to get people to follow them. The first one is to use turn signals. Using turn signals is so small but can make a difference. If someone is following and you do not use a turn signal, it can result in that car rear ending you because they were not prepared for you to turn. Another one is to avoid distractions. The most common distraction is the phones. We see daily, drivers looking up and down constantly, that is because they are on their phones. In the time that they are looking down to finish a text, a driver could have slammed on their brakes and you didn’t see them do that because you were looking down, going at that speed could seriously injure you, or the car in front of you. Those are just a few steps we could do to help reduce the number or deaths.
One example from my life is when my mom was waiting to turn left into a store parking lot, she had been waiting for a while for traffic to slow down, when this driver rear ended us. My mom was using a turn signal, so it shows that the driver was not paying attention, because if she were we would not have been hit. Some things I learned in driver’s education taught me was what specific traffic signs mean and to keep a safe distance between yourself and the car in front of you. One thing that helped me a lot was when they took us out and practice passing each other. Learning how to pass each other early on really helped me. Through the techniques I learned in driver’s education, I can become a safer driver by performing those acts every time I am on the road. Another thing I can do is to keep my eyes on the road rather than on a phone. Drivers education is especially important and in the end could help save many drivers’ lives.
